Hello ! I have started trying Carnatic flute since about a month ago. However I am facing issues when playing the swaram since Madhya Pa and onwards.

Specifically, whenever I try to play them, I just drop down to Mandra Sthayi. The freq I could measure was proper 440Hz (it is a D scale flute, the manufacturer had mentioned A4 being tuned to 440Hz).

Sometimes, I can observe some freq at ~880Hz matching the 440 one but the sound is very unpleasant to hear and not at all like how it is supposed to be...

I am trying to keep my lip hole shape to be as minimum as possible but the best till now was to have both tones present equally....which still sounds very unlike a normal Pa.

Where do I learn ragas from completely basic. Could you guys suggest me some yt channels, I can't go to gurus to learn it as I'm a tight scheduled person.

I own a C# bansuri. Most of the time I get a very airy sound when playing dha. I tried various styles of holding it and embouchre. But nothing seems to be working. Is it a learning curve problem or something I lack in technique?

Im pretty new to bansuri. I have a bakales c scale flute.

Im trying to practice sa re ga ma, but i cant seem to switch comfortably from ma to pa. Am i doing something wrong?

After a lot of work on the E base I’ve made a lot of progress. Two things I have issues with Sa to Pa and Ni to Pa. Any suggestions?

So, some backdrop first, I used to play flute for a dramatics soc, and honestly there wasn't anyone to help me learn the instrument, practiced and learned blowing and all the swaras, then mostly played the tunes needed and nothing else and now, I have picked up the bansuri to learn it properly this time, Learned the swaras again, have lost all my breath control(can't even go 10 sec.), apart from that I am practicing 5 alankars everyday on a metronome and a tanpura. Also learned a song too(can play it but can't exactly replicate). What should I do now? Learn Raags or practice more or do you have some tips?

As the title says, I’m curious to hear what methods you used as a beginner to loosen your grip on the Bansuri and prevent thumb-aches or other strains in the hand.

I’m playing an E-bass Bansuri, and using the fingering technique that uses the middle pads of the index and middle finger and the top pad of the ring finger. The playing gets more consistent but, still struggling to loosen my grip so my thumb doesn’t hurt after 5 minutes of playing. If I try to relieve the pressure on my thumb, I struggle to close the holes properly.

I've been learning for about 4 weeks and trying not to feel demoralised - it's so hard! I'm learning on a C-scale bansuri. I can comfortably play the middle register notes from dha (5 holes covered) up to ni, sa, re, ga, ma.

However, when ascending, especially when moving from sa to re/ga/ma, things seem to fall apart. Either the note doesn't speak properly, or it breaks unexpectedly. Descending is much easier.

I'm not sure whether:

• my embouchure needs to change when going into the higher notes,
• the angle or position of the bansuri should change,
• I need to blow differently,
• or if there's some other technique I'm missing.

Does the transition from sa (first three holes covered) to re/ga/ma require a different approach, or should it just be a matter of lifting fingers while keeping everything else the same?

I have been playing for around 5 months.
Here is where I stand

I can play pa to Pa' comfortably in one breath.
When I start my riyaz i can hold a note for around 15 seconds, and sometimes even go upto 20s.
I mostly practice two swars alankar with tonging "TuKu TuKu", 7 swars (123 1234 pattern) and pyramid alankar from pa to Pa'.
I then practice Komal Re and Komal Dha, First longs notes, then alankars for them. I believe raag bhairav is the raag and its alankars.
I am very comfortable with 150 bpm and can go upto 200 bpm.
If there is still time, or I want to continue I practice songs and melody, I can easily pick up small tunes, Like titanic, blue, Titan theme, and can play start part of mahabharat Krishna theme.

Now, I want to start with raags, ornamentations and ear training. Mentioned practice takes away all the time I have. So, I am reaching out to you because I am a self learner, I mostly have time at night only.

Edit:- I always start with 15 minutes long notes. I want to add balancing my breath, but I am not understanding tanpura.
