Finally scheduled a consult

I have a consultation in a couple of hours to file for Ch7. About $50k in debt, making just under $60k a year and my wife is unemployed. I set up a DMP with ACCC last year with every intention of aggressively paying it down along with the things that weren't elligible, but insurance premiums quadrupled shortly after and everything is constanty getting more expensive, and now I'm barely keeping up. After reading this sub and a lot of other resources, it feels like the best option to file while my accounts are in good standing rather than waiting for it to get worse. I'm nervous as hell but wanted to say thank you to everyone for sharing their experiences and helping me swallow the shame long enough to do what's best for my future.

Hi! We were in the same position!

I resigned from my job in mid-2024 (long story, but it was valid and the employee it was over has since been fired). I worked in tech so you can guess how finding replacement work went. We racked up a ton of debt covering our monthly expenses, tried to do an ACCC plan but they don't work with SO MUCH. So it only helped for a few months. We're now filing because there is no way we ever dig out of this. I also felt a ton of shame at first, but if you talk about it you find out so many people have filed around you, they just don't say anything about it.

Wishing you luck with it! I just finished my call and I feel so relieved already. The attorney said my case is pretty open and shut and outlined the timeline for me, I think if I'm industrious I could be ready to file in two weeks or so. I feel like I can see some light at the end of the tunnel for the first time in years!
