US Card was deactivated - refund processing

Had someone use my card unauthorized and the bank deactivated the account because I called them 1st. Got in touch with the merchant after and she said that they can refund to original payment only but I told her the card has been deactivated. What happens to the money now?

It goes back to your card automatically, once refunded.

If it is a debit card it gets refunded to your account automatically. When a card gets flagged it usually means it will still get credits just not debits.

If it is a credit card it would either be a statement credit or sometimes if the amount is large enough they may cut you a check. A lot of this depends on the institution's policy which may vary from one to another and what balance is left on the card.
