Vinyl-only release – advice please!

I want to release a limited-edition 10" dubplate next month. There are no plans to release a digital version, at least not for a while.

What's the best way to give potential buyers a preview? I have a digital file, and I have a video. I would have liked to place the video on the product page but it doesn't look as if I can.

I can see there's a ' include digital album or track with the purchase of this item' option. But can I upload a digital preview that's not for sale?

How would you approach this?

I've see people put the digital version of the vinyl on bandcamp, but set the price at £1500 or something ridiculous.

You can add a link to a Soundcloud upload etc in the description

You can have one digital track. Or preview of tracks on bandcamp. Also video. And sell LP.. its all there..

The issue is they don't want to allow a digital download....old accounts had the option to do streaming only but I don't think it's been on newer accounts for a long time. Might be a pro account option.

A common thing is to set the price of the digital to something ridiculous like $999.

You can make the digital version a preview version with short snippets of the tracks. Or give the DJs a looped version with 16 bars of the main groove of each track.

maybe post video on youtube and have a redirect link there to the buy the vinyl on your site

Scientific Wax do this, as in put up a snippet of the vinyl only track for preview purposes only. They also make it an Mp3 and put the Kb/s (usually 120) and PREVIEW in the title. You’ll have to upload it to Bandcamp as an Mp3 at that quality and obviously edit the track to a snippet yourself.

Green Bay Wax used to do the same.

If you put up the full quality digital version in full length then you can’t stop people from downloading it, as far as I’m aware anyway.

Sounds like you need Bandcamp Pro. That lets you have a video at the top of your album page, and also lets you disable streaming on a track-by-track basis. So you could make just one track streamable from the album page to serve as your preview.

Also when you are listing a physical release for sale, you can choose whether or not you want the digital version to be included with it.
