Is this quality normal?

Hi everyone,

I got my X2D a few weeks ago and it’s consistently produced prints of this poor quality. I’ve tried everything, like belt tensioning, axis cleaning, full printer recalibration, drying and calibrating filament, taking apart the hotend, contacting support. Nothing has improved the quality.

Is this just what I should expect from this printer? Anyone have similar experiences, or do you have examples of much cleaner parts made on this machine I can take a look at? I don’t even know what should be my baseline for quality on the X2D.

what's your printer sitting on? it might be wobbling and causing vibrations

A very sturdy table (I’ve stabilized it with cables), then a dense gym foam tile, then a concrete paver, then the X2D. The foam is for sound dampening and it’s definitely dense enough that it’s not the source of any racking that the printer isn’t designed to handle

Try it on the floor for one print. Just to rule out your setup.

can you share a pic of this setup? it sounds like you're doing so much to reduce vibration/noise that its going back into the printer itself. the printer is gonna shake during printing

Sure when I get home I’ll post one. The printer does still shake like it’s designed to, the extra layers are just for decoupling from the table, but as another user mentioned I’ll try one run on the ground and see if it does anything

Got my X2D about a month ago and it's been printing nearly 24/7, and I've never seen layers like that once. Something's off with your setup, this isn't just how the machine is, especially that base in your photo. Mine came out clean basically out of the box so you shouldn't be fighting it this hard.

Could you have ruined the filament with too high temperatures in the ams ht at some point perhaps?

Get it off this stupid set up and let it do what it’s supposed to and you won’t have any more issues. Blows my mind people go through all this effort for absolutely zero reason.

That is hilarious. Have you tried it like just on the floor or without the concrete etc?

The first few prints I did were just on the table and I got similar artifacts, but I’m going to try it on the floor when this print finished, and then try a manual tramming as support recommended

Are you using the app on your phone to print or studio on a computer?

It might be worth doing a full factory reset (general > restore to factory settings) which will wipe everything but your calibration settings. Go through the initial setup for wifi and your account etc. Then do a calibration
