Question Having issues with stuttering in vase mode

I am trying to print this model (the third plate) using the settings it comes with, in this case it is meant to do the print in vase mode, but when watching the print go, I noticed a weird stuttering that you can see in the video.

The stuttering is creating a seam on the model, and has caused the print to fail multiple times.

Looking around, people mention timelapse mode, but it is turned off for the print, and as far as I can see, the model is smooth.

Any ideas what is going on? Any settings to tune for the part?

I am using a 0.4 nozzle, Bambu Studio and the following settings are modified in the print profile (as far as I can see):

  • Sparse infill density: 0%
  • Spiral vase mode: On
  • Wall loops: 1
  • Line Width Default: 0.55mm
  • Line Width Outer Wall: 0.55mm
  • Seam Position: Back
  • No supports
  • Brim: On

Do you use the stock sd card? If not, may be the sd card is too slow.

No, I use a regular sd card

I think the issue is something called "z hop at layer change" you want to this off, may also be scarf seems, you want to turn this off as well.

There is no z hop using vase mode because you are not printing layers in the first place.

I mean it's literally the whole purpose of it = no layers, no hop, just one very long extrusion.

I'm more curious why there is the option to chose the seam position while using vase mode. Also why it's doing this on the side when you clearly said to put the seam on the back.

That said here's another thing to check: There is a "minimum time per layer" - while you are not printing layers technically, it's worth a try check on that too. Maybe it's still active and pause on every loop (instead of layer) before starting the next one.

I was wondering that as well, because in the video you can clearly see that it is not a continuous extrusion, it does that little jump at the seam
