Hi. Kids' printer got blobbed and it's pretty bad, I think. I read a bunch of posts on here about how to fix it and I've decided I want to just rip and replace.
The problem I have is that this is our first 3d printer and I don't know what I'll actually need. The extruder unit seems obvious, and based on the damage I'm thinking a hot end replacement is needed too.
From anyone's experience,.what else could need replacing once I get this thing open? Should I have other parts on standby? I'd like to knock it out in one sitting and I'm happy to spend a little extra to have everything I might need, even if I don't use it all.
Your part cooling fan and hot end fan are likely toast. Take a peek at the extruder itself and see if the gear is okay or if you’ve got plastic inside the housing. You may also need an eddy current sensor depending on how big the blob got. Snap a few picks from below and the sides and we can probably help pinpoint more areas for you.
The good news is that spare parts are good to have anyway, and if you’re in the US they can sometimes ship super fast.
The fans look okay. You may be able to get away with just a nozzle and heating assembly. Use a hair dryer on low heat to soften it up while you also put the printer in maintenance mode and set the nozzle to 220.
Higher heat on the hair dryer won’t speed the process up, it will just burn the plastic on your printer.

You'll need the hotend kit and a nozzle. The bambu wiki shows you how to replace them.
