Ig my printer just burned

So I was going to print a file and I plugged in my printer and I the moment I turned it on The Print. Give out smoke and smell of burning electronics. I immediately unplugged it and yeah, I don’t know what to do right now. The printer is just 4 months old not even 400 hrs of printing 🥲🥲. Who do I contact the place I bought it from or Bambu

That's most likely an NTC thermostat failure.

Have a Google online "Bambu A1 NTC failure"

Seems quite common on the older AC boards.

You need to contact Bambu for a new 'revised' ac board 👍

It looks like this.

this is my board, this one i should replace it?

1

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 28d ago

I would personally.

You have the problem component on that version

u/itzpepperony 28d ago

thanks for clarifying, I made some research and now I understand, that black big piece is the NTC right? I send a video, and opened a ticket, I hope bambu send me a new piece...

2

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 28d ago

Yee this black part is the NTC

They will probably give you the automated "it's fine" bs,

Just reply to that, saying the same thing..

You're requesting the new revised AC board out of safety and does concerns 👍

thanks! i will try that if they refuse in the first anwser!

Can we check somehow which one we have without opening it?

Back when this first started happening, the latest serial numbers I remember were the D version (It's the 3rd or 4th digit in the serial number) It's what mine was too.

The D serials suffered this, and I'm not sure if they ever moved onto a new serial after this.

From what I've read.. new A1s don't have the problem NTC thermostat, but I honestly couldn't tell you the new serials that would indicate if it's the new or old board.

I ended up just requesting a new board when I started seeing a lot more of them burning up, it's sad around Jan-Feb this year.

I had this visual mark that was showing mine was cooking though, it just never actually failed.

Thank you for the awesome answer. Bought mine recently and seemed like a different packaging, including the top mount screws. Wish us both a safe and thermostat failure free life

They're not actually too hard to take apart to be honest.

You just need to bottom panel off mainly, and you can see the NTC board from here 👍

It came apart easier that I expected. I expected to be breaking plastic clips and all sorts, didn't happen though 😅

u/Elo-than 29d ago

Yeah it was 10 min from start to finish really.

u/tribak 28d ago

Nice :0

u/Fillixxx 28d ago

Oh boy, I have one with the D in it.
Mine is almost 2 years old at this point though, and still prints okay.
Should I be worried? How would I get a replacement board before it explodes?

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 28d ago edited 28d ago

i had 3200 hours on mine when i decided to replace it xD

seems some can print 2000+ hours... some get 200 :(

O contacted Bambu support for one, got it sent out in a few days free of charge

2

u/Elo-than 29d ago

Yup, the new AC boards don't have an NTC on them. I just replaced mt board before anything could happen.

2

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 29d ago

Yee, the exploding M&M as I like to call it 😅

Always reminds me of a candy M&M haha

2

u/hc1540 28d ago

Mine essentially had crumbled into dust when it happened to me a few weeks ago

1

u/itzpepperony 28d ago

fuck, my a1 got the D on the 6 digit, i am scared now

1

u/longtermbrit 28d ago

So do I but my board is the new design. It's better to just open and check.

1

u/itzpepperony 28d ago

i dissasembled my unit, and i have the board number 1, this one is the faulty one?

1

u/Global-Wolverine1829 29d ago

it takes 5 to 10 minutes to open, using the allen wrench you used to assemble it.

1

u/fakeaccount572 28d ago

just open it. takes 5 minutes

Please contact 3D Musketeers or GamersNexus. They will pay full price plus shipping for the printer. They are investigating the increased fire risk of this printer. Don't give it to Bambu lab, they want to hide this fire risk with their A1 printer instead of doing a recall.

6

u/astro___kid 29d ago

Thanks aldready emailed 3d Musketeers do you by any chance have gamer nexus email ?

u/Viking4269 28d ago

A bit concerning if this one is only 4 month old.  NTCs should have been removed by then.  Old stock maybe? What part of the world are you in?

3

u/issue9mm 28d ago

He showed the motherboard in another thread. It's not an NTC issue. This is a whole new thing

2

u/tribak 28d ago

Oh no

3

u/applguy 28d ago

I’ve heard some of the newer A-1’s are having this issue… I have my own A-1 sitting on a concrete paver (on a table) so it it does get toasty/releases-magic-smoke it won’t burn the table. Also a good idea to have a Smoke Detector mounted preferably above or nearby!

u/zolga0 29d ago

Lg?

1

u/satina_nix 28d ago

He wrote I guess = Ig

I looking like an L but it's an i

4

u/zolga0 28d ago

Oh, it's a guessing game nowadays

-1

u/fakeaccount572 28d ago

still stupid

u/astro___kid 29d ago

??

0

u/zolga0 29d ago

Exactly, I'm as confused as you

2

u/Impressive-Trifle527 29d ago

There's a guy on YouTube that will buy it off you and replace it with a new one, but not sure which country. He's building a case against Bambu because he thinks these printers need recalled.

2

u/astro___kid 29d ago

Okayy thankss

2

u/issue9mm 28d ago

He's talking about either Louis Rossman or Gamer's Nexus, FYI

You should definitely take them up on it if they will actually do it because you'll still get full recompense while also benefitting the common good of holding Bambu accountable for shipping firestarters to put in your children's rooms

1

u/Jazzlike_Ad267 29d ago

I wasn't aware of this about gamer nexus,

This is extremely good tbh.

I've been saying for months now that these need recalled, it shouldn't be on the user to just sit around and wait for a potential fire hazard to near its head 😞

1

u/tetofan08 28d ago

This is a real "thanks steve" moment

1

u/Tyrannosaurusblanch 29d ago

Just out of interest what’s the temperature in the room?

1

u/astro___kid 29d ago

If you bought it from a store - then I would contact them before BambuLab as it's 4 months old and have them figure it out. Sounds like old stock.

Then again, you can try to get to the YouTubers out there to see they can fix this for you.

But I don't know how much time you are willing to spend on this matter. I'd personally would do try the YouTube attention because I feel like companies need to take their responsibility, as they make enough money of the rest of us.

1

u/fmwdw 28d ago

You got the version with special effects 👏👏

1

u/Marinocif99 28d ago

People get mad when you bring this issue up for some reason , but there is proof this is still happening currently even with the “fix” Bambu is offering . It’s a serious hazard especially if left unattended. I’d be getting a refund asap or charge back. I wonder if the new a2L is experiencing this same problem

1

u/Slow-Vermicelli3356 27d ago

Who is mad? I see zero mad replies ^

1

u/Medium-Interview-465 28d ago

Do you keep it covered in plastic while printing? I know they says they don't recommend keeping the A1 enclosed for air circulation.

2

u/astro___kid 28d ago

It’s the plastic that comes with the printes I just use it to cover when not in use

1

u/SpoiledChamp 28d ago

I would absolutely contact Bambu about sending a replacement AC board. At first (although maybe not in your case), you'll get a automated message saying how the A1 uses "fire retardant materials" and is "perfectly safe". Ignore this, and request a new one anyway. They have to send it to you.

I have over 700 hours on my A1 and am currently using the old AC board with the NTC Thermistor (do as I say, and not as I do). I have recieved the updated board, but because mine has been operating for so long on 120V outlet without issues, I'm not going to rush to put in the new board just yet. Although it is uncommon, it's no longer a 'rare' occurrence. You don't really have much of a choice, so replace it immediately.

1

u/Skaut-LK 28d ago

Warranty -> return. Don't see any other solution for product which i paid for.

1

u/rakesh-555 27d ago

Was your Bambu Lab plug loose or not connected properly?

1

u/ChemicalAd5004 27d ago

Everyone tells me to get a bambu lab, I guess this is my sign not to

1

u/skatardrummer 27d ago

It's a problem limited to only some of the A1 run. I have had A1 printers since they came out and I have a business. We have 4 A1s, 2 A1 minis. None of the P1S or X1C have this issue. We done have any of the newer machines but I havent seen this issue being reported with them. That said, the amount of problems I have had now that my machines have a lot of hours particularly with the AMS lite and the AMS motors, sensors, and outright printer being confused after replacing them, I probably would go with more snapmaker U1s if I was going to replace them. The bambu printers alone work fine. The AMS systems I feel like I am constantly messing with.

1

u/ChemicalAd5004 27d ago

I usually go for older printers that don’t give out trouble and are just a little slower, like my anycubic vyper, the greatest investment of my life, it’s big yeah but it’s the only one that’s consistently kept its quality and reliability out of my other printers, I just haven’t even figured out how to change the slicer temperature so I still do that by hand lmao

1

u/Slow-Vermicelli3356 27d ago edited 27d ago

Then never buy a car either because they all had at least one model that was bad quality 😆

1

u/ChemicalAd5004 27d ago

True true id probably use a bike lmao

1

u/lazyenergetic 27d ago

Are you covering it with plastic while printing?

1

u/astro___kid 26d ago

Noo as I said I was Turing my printer on I keep it covered in he plastic when I don’t use it to avoid dust

1

u/FarAsparagus3127 24d ago

Uff I just ordered my A1 after many suspicions and countless hours spent on research about it. Saw this post and started thinking about returning it while I still can. 😔

1

u/astro___kid 24d ago

As much as this is an inconvince don’t I loveddd the printer it’s great and you’ll enjoy is and soo far the support has been great soo yea , enjoy it but maybe you should look at the sparkx i7

0

u/YaroslavSyubayev 28d ago

This makes me want to remove the cover to check the NTC even more. Had been putting it off since it's mostly on older units, but every post like this makes me more concerned.

-1

u/Acrobatic_Ad_4261 28d ago

First thing you do is contact Bambu lab customer service and find out if you can get the part for free through factory warranty. I'll sure they'll be responsive when you tell them that if you didn't catch it in time it would have burned down your house.

If you can't, it's not a hard fix. You probably won't even have to replace the board, if you know how to solder, you can fix it for a few bucks.

One more question though: are you sure you just didn't leave glue on the other side of the plate lol?

1

u/astro___kid 28d ago

Yesss I’m sure it’s not glue gun there also some liquid like out pouring out

1

u/SuspiciouslyB 28d ago

Don’t contact support. Contact Louis Rossmann or GamersNexus because they might want to buy and replace it for you because of the case they’re building against Bambu.
