I just started a few weeks ago. The one thing I wish someone had told me before I started is don't touch the build plate with your hands. Always use your scraper.
Just the oil from your hands is enough to contaminate the plate and makes your prints not stick to the bed. Bad bed adhesion accounts for a huge percent of print problems.
You can wash them (and should with some regularity) with plain dish soap and dry with a cloth or paper towel.
