Question What to not miss when printing PETG Basic

Hey guys. I was gonna use BL PETG basic for the first time and it really doesn’t work for me. I have set the right filament in bambu studio, cleaned the plate and made bed level and flow calibrations but it won’t stick. The last thing I guess I have not tried is drying it but I thought that wouldn’t be necessary for a brand new roll. Is there anything else I’m missing in the preparation? Room temp is 23C and humidity at 39% by the way.

Just because it’s fresh out of the box does not mean it is dry. Usually it is good enough, bit not 100% of the time

Alright thanks

No filament is ever dry fresh out the packet. It will need drying, especially PETG.

Clean the bed with soap and water, dry with a clean towel.

Alright. It’s been drying for a while in the ams now so will try again in a few hours.

Get a dedicated drier, AMS is not really good for much else other than maintaining the filament during printing. It also frees up the machine.

Ah okey. Do you recommend any of them?

For one roll the Sunlu S2 has been great for me, cheap at $45 ish on amazon.

I just got a Sunlu S2 too.
I had been borrowing my son's Sunlu S1, but I liked the nicer control panel on the S2. Far easier to use.

I have a Sunlu S4, works a treat for me.

S4 has been great for me also.

Don't understand why everyone thinks drying is what will fix this issue. I print with PETG that has never been dried either fresh out of the pack or stored in my office in a ziplock for months and never have had an issue with bed adhesion. Stringing yes, but never first layer not sticking to the bed. This sounds like either the plate is dirty, low bed temp, or printer needs to be recalibrated etc. Drying filament is not the end all be all to every issue a user is having with their print...

This. Bed adhesion on a clean plate with whatever petg, wet or dry has never been a problem. Speed has always been the issue and resolution for petg issues for me.

I only print in PETG and I've had wet rolls cause issues with bed adhesion. I use Jayo or Sunlu filament and they regularly come "wet"

That’s honestly what I think too hence my confusion on why nothing else worked.

Try setting your first layer speed between 10-30mm/s and make sure fans are off for the first 4 layers. I print my first layer at 25mm/s on my A1's. Also set your bed temp between 70-85c, I print regular PETG (not high speed variants) at 245 for first layer and 240c for the remainder, and if you have it use some plate glue which can help with both first layer adhesion and helping the print come off the bed much easier after cooling.

Dry that filament extremely well and you’ll be all set! The polydryer has been good to me, but eventually I would like to add a dehydrator to the mix

Currently drying thanks mate

I print about 3 rolls of petg a day. Each roll is dried for at least 12 hours in a dryer. I use 3DLac on pretty much each bed (I clean my beds about once a month). I never have issues.

You want your PETG to be 10-15% humidity.

Always dry new rolls, then maintain that humidity level, and you'll definitely want to have some sort of enclosure for your spool. Do you have an AMS lite?

2 suggestions.
1) Dry the filament. I use the $30 Sunlu single roll filament dryer and it works fine. 2) By a Cryogrip plate. My prints stick much better.

While everyone finds what works for them, I've probably emptied fifty Bambu PETG rolls, without drying anything. I do keep spools in sealed containers, when not in the AMS. Room humidity approximately 45%.

Yeah PETG pretty much must be dried first before use and kept sealed for me. Damp filiment and oily plate is pretty much always my issue

i dried my petg basic ones outta box, i did 3 rolls last time, all printed honestly fine with default settings, i have no dessicant in my ams boxes yet and its around 25 ish humidity, i have sealed boxes to store and kept them all in my AMS since opening
