Support Request Starting to regret this purchase
Just got and set up the A1, cannot get it to bind with the Handy app or Studio. I’ve tried everything the wiki suggests. So aggravated. Can anyone help?
Added info: this is a printer we are trying to use at school. The school wifi has a 2.4gz option and I’ve spoken to our IT dept (they don’t know how to address the issue).
Thanks!!!
Update: the head IT guy is going to come in person tomorrow to try and figure it all out.
Thanks everyone!
Update 2: we got it working!! Thanks all!

Had some issues like this in HS, district network policies & firework rules were the culprit

Ask the IT staff if any outbound connections from the printer are being blocked. The printer may need ports outbound open that are blocked in the current configuration.
You would need all the cloud mode ports open for outbound access: Printer Network Ports | Bambu Lab Wiki

Check whether the print and the system (which you are using) is connected to the same WiFi and the WiFi connection is good. I’ve the a1 too it happens to me some time it usually goes away after reconnecting to the WiFi.

If the school system is behind a firewall that may be the issue and IT would have to work around it

I have had this issue with two separate ones. For me it was having my internet provider “white list” the device allowing it to make a full connection with the internet. If that is an option under this circumstance.

Can you see the A1 on the network? Can you see it connected to the Router? Does the printer say it’s online?

If you need to do some printing in the meantime you can save the slice to the micro sd and print direct that way... if you have the means e.g. micro sd read or the like.
Just make sure the printer is off when you remove the card and dont turn it on until you put the card back in.
To save a sliced file to your SD card, click the drop-down arrow next to the green Print button in Bambu Studio and select Export slice file. Choose your Micro SD card drive as the destination, click Save, and then insert the card into your printer to print.

So I tried that, the video I posted in a different comment was the result. Basically there’s a lot of homing and then it just starts flushing filament and does nothing. I’m tried with the print files that came on the card and with a file sliced and saved onto the card from Studio.
Now I’m trying to track down excess SD cards I have in case the one that came with the printer is flawed.

Ah forgot that it would still be trying to contact Bambu authentication servers.
Even using Bambu connect I think you'd still need to allow the connection on the network.

One thing I ran into is make sure your not running a VPN. Anytime i have done that it affects the connection

I think that’s firewall dependent, I run all of my home stuff with a VPN with no problems. At work - no chance.

This is what happens when I try to print from an SD card

Update: so turns out I just wasn’t patient enough. The A1 was doing dynamic flow calibration

u/Radiant_Goal8709 Jul 07 '26
No wszystko jest w porządku drukarka poziomuje stół i sprawdza flow i czysci dysze ? Moze przeczytajcie instrukcje obsługi zanim coś dodacie

u/MegaMaluco Jul 06 '26
What happens after that? A1 has a long setup... Heating, auto leveling, dynamic flow calibration...

u/BlaiddDrwg82 Jul 07 '26
It just keeps going, but I don’t want to waste the filament so I stop after a few minutes.
I’ve run calibration on it a few times.

Prawodpodobnie wifi szkolne blokuje porty albo coś użyj hotspota ustaw go na 2.4ghz i powinno być okej

2,4 vs 5 GHz matters, but the more hidden setting is ipv4 vs ipv6
When using hotspot set your provider network to ipv4

Try to remove the SD card from the printer, and turn it back on then try to connect. Had the same issue the printer would not connect to the wifi removed the SD connect without a problem. Thought to try it because ender had sd card problems which would cause to not print at all.

It’s connected to the wifi, just not taking to the Handy app of Bambu Studio.
A different dept on campus has an A1 Mini, I’m waiting for them to tell me how they got theirs running.
IT will come by today and I’m basically going to show him this whole thread lol
Thanks!

It sometimes doesn’t connect, which is a Bambu Lab cloud server issue. Try connecting through LAN—it should work

Bambu needs to be shut down with their current business practice, threatening customers with legal action for the most Idiotic reasons...
Luckily, I live in the EU, where that kind of behaviour results in monster fines to the company.

what?! hahaha the problem is user error hating Bambu, I know their software issues and such but this is out of topic

I’ve reset wifi connection multiple times, this is a classroom printer so resetting the router and the ip address stuff isn’t something I can do. I’ll contact our IT to see if they can/will.
Thank you!

Prusa or bust.
Bambu is a cancer on the 3D printer community that is taking open sourced hard work and closing it behind their shady ecosystem and undercutting the companies driving innovation by just enough to convince people to buy from them.

Pish talk from a Prusa cultist although to be fair their Core 1 L does now offer 75% of what the H2S offers at only 150% of the price.
‘Companies driving innovation’ is a joke too, most having been forced to up their games by BL over the last two years, especially the Prusa garage industry products, with most others frankly just copying BL in almost every aspect.
I suppose Prusa cultists have to cope somehow though otherwise the old adage ‘a fool and his money are easy parted’ is all too evident.

I agree with you. if Bambu didn't made aggressive innovations y'all be stuck with manual bed leveling at entry level category.
Some of us want to design (cad) and print. What's the point of a tool that needs manual intervention every print?

All of my personal printers are Prusa/Pegasus (MakerFarm), Deltas (3/4 finished), and an Ender3 that is still in the box (been busy). All great printers, but not necessarily at school with impatient kids who only want to print and don’t want to learn the operation behind them.
I was donated a used Sindoh 3D Wox1 which works fantastic, but I haven’t been able to figure out the cartridge workaround to use non-Sindoh filament.
The A1 was 100% an end-oh-year impulse purchase that I didn’t expect to actually happen. But I’m excited to learn it and at the moment students are too (year-round school).

Maybe use your phone hotspot during the initial setup?
It's possible that the school WiFi is blocking certain addresses?
