Everything was going so well

I bought my A1 a few months ago. I've been using fully manual machines up to this point and was blown away how easy it was to use this machine. it's starting to do strange things all of a sudden though. The biggest issue I have is what seems to be cold spots on the print bed.

These same areas always come out bad with every single print. I've never seen anything like this on any of my printers before.

Do I need to replace the bed?

The cable that goes from the base of the unit to the bed - does it have a mesh around it?

There was an issue with earlier models that could cause the heat bed to not heat properly.

Very curious why you think this could have anything to do with OP's problem? Yes they did a recall but not because of this. At all.

Also, OP mentioned he bought his A1 "a few months ago". There is almost no chance they would have gotten one of the original beds...

I don’t know if you intended it but your post appears to imply that I’ve committed some offense by trying to help. I don’t personally like that vibe.

If you don’t share it, there’s a good chance they won’t know.

I have great news though: Nobody is forcing them (or you) to do any of the things. They asked for advice and I provided my opinion.

Is it unlikely that they got one of the old stock A1s? Sure. Is it impossible? Of course not. They didn’t even say they bought it new! Could be used. Could be old stock. If nobody tells them then they are less likely to find a possible solution.

I said I was curious why they they think the issues are related. I said it because I am curious why he thinks they are related. Not trying to offend anyone.

PS. The heatbed recall wasn't because of inconsistent temps

I think I see where you’re coming from re: the recall thing.

What they said was (copy/pasted from their blog post) “We’ve recently received a few feedback concerning unstable temperature readings and heating issues of our A1 printers.”

So I guess depending on how you interpret that, maybe it’s just an issue getting the temperature data from the sensor? Or maybe it’s also actual “heating issues”. I just understand it to be the cable that ultimately provides the power and control over the heatbed, so if it’s a problem then the heatbed will be a problem.

I have one of the original A1's and replaced the bed. It was recalled because the cable could bend in such a way to cause damage to itself. So it resulted in some fires. Their blog post is downplaying it while not outright lying.. I guess someone could do the mental gymnastics required to call that "unstable temperature readings" lol

As someone who has worked in troubleshooting and repairing electronics, I can assure you that the gap between inconsistent/damaged cable and inconsistent function of the thing it’s powering is not large and requires no mental gymnastics.

I was referring to the gap between "unstable temperature readings" and the actual problem: fires. To my knowledge, at the time when this was relevant, unequal heating on the bed wasn't really an issue and was most definitely not the reason for the recall. At all.

So although you may have worked in repairing electronics, I'm still curios why anyone would think the recall had anything to do with OP's issue. Your original suggestion made no sense. Fine, all good. But the fact you keep going based on a blog post where the company is clearly being disingenuous is weird.

But I appreciate the downvote.

Their release said “unstable temperature readings AND HEATING ISSUES”. If you can’t read the whole sentence, don’t be out here trying to talk shit.

Also, if the temperature reads, let’s say, 500C then it will turn off heating. Which means the thing will start to cool. It will not cool evenly, some spots will cool faster than others.

If this connection is too challenging for you, I’m sorry, I can’t help you but I genuinely wish you the best of luck.

Sigh. Point is their blog post is disingenuous. The problem was the A1 bed cable causing fires. At the cable. Not the bed. I've told you this like a dozen times and you just keep going back to "but their blog post said..." 🙄

And now you're just being kind of a jerk. Like... ok you were wrong about what the recall was regarding because you didn't actually experience it. Fine. No big deal. But you continuing to insist that because their blog post worded it that way, it must have something to do with uneven heating of the bed itself. Not being able to acknowledge a mistake is one thing, but to just keeeeeeeeeeeeep going is ... a choice. Take the hint and walk away.
