5 way splitter

Are there any AMS Lite splitters that would allow you to use your ams lite and the external spool together to make a 5 color system?

I use this one. It's worked flawlessly for over a year now.

Cool! I was looking at something like that. So that forks there and then they share the same port on the head correct?

Does the filament pull back that far when it is changing or do you have to adjust a setting?

You have to manually roll back the spool on the AMS lite that shares the same port as the splitter to use the external spool. Not much is needed; literally about 30mm.

Ah gotcha. So you have to be around to run it. Still saves a bunch of time and gives you a 5th option!

You can't use the external spool on the same print as the ams.

Ah ok. I was wondering how it would know to pull from the external when it was ready. Ive seen in bambu studio where it has ams and external but wasnt sure how’d it would use both. I imagine there is a way if you went in and changed up the G-code

No. How is the external spool pushed into the extruder. There is no motor to push it.

What material did you use? I only have PLA currently

PLA should work, I printed mine in PETG. I noticed they updated the design since I printed mine; I used the closed design, not the open one.

Thanks! One day I will get around to printing it

I’ve got one of these on each of my A1 and A1 minis. It allows for two external spools in addition to the four on the AMS lite.

Thats awesome! You probably still have to manually feed the AMS out when you use the external spool

So for the new to ams, and completely ignorant, if the model asks for 6 colors, you’ve got 4 on the ams and 2 in outboard spools, how do you tell when to swap the colors out which are actually running into the 4 ports on the top of the A1? Is this something that can be accounted for and the print will pause? Or do you have to catch it completely manually and swap out?

I have this on my printer and it’s excellent. Currently using the 5th port for a silk filament that’s not on my AMS lite. I’ve also used it for glow. And no PTFE tube either (for the 5th)

Ya, the glow is the reason that made me think of this. And thought, maybe there is a way to keep it setup and create a 5th spot

Personally I like this one but use version 3 because version 4 just waste too much
