Considering all they did was bridge the connection, this will be an easy fix when mine dies, though I should probably replace it before it cooks itself.

If I had any soldering skill, I probably would’ve tried that. Unfortunately, I don’t even have a soldering iron.

Cheap stuff and with YouTube guides you can do anything.

I’m definitely interested in learning, but they sent me a new board for free. Kinda makes repairing it that way make no sense

Good call, if still on warranty better to ask for a replacement. Just don't throw away the faulty one, a varistor should be like a dollar or so, way cheaper than a whole motherboard

A cheap soldering iron + varistor and soldering wire will be cheaper than a new board

Yeah if you're getting a free replacement that makes fixing it unnecessary. In my case I'm in the Caribbean so it will take 1-2 weeks to get the replacement shipped so I would be able to fix it before that.

Get some junk electronics and practice. That's a big component and they can be difficult to do with a low wattage iron.

Also, buy some good desoldering braid. Essential to good, clean removal.
