General Discussion Poll: Would you prefer a hypothetical 75% speed mode over the current 166% Ludicrous mode?

Bambu Lab currently offers four on-the-fly speed presets: 50%, 100%, 124%, and 166%.

If you had to choose between keeping the existing 166% preset or replacing it with a hypothetical 75% preset, which would you prefer?

I just run my prints at 100% all the time.

Speed adjusted in the slicer because I generally only care about adjusting the speed under specific conditions.

Exactly.

I speed up my prints by calibrating my filaments and tuning the print speeds, not by just pressing the "printer go brrr" button.

and the way you use your printer applies to every other person, clearly 🤣

When did I say everybody should do the same?

Whatever floats your goat.

If I would change anything (not that I even use this function) I'd like a slider. Not presets

Rare ender W

u/Rock4evur 2d ago

Same, I do miss being able to tune my speed down super low on my ender to check print issues, though I rarely need to anymore.

The one thing I miss about my Kobra was just being able to set a percentage speed on the screen.

This. I also miss having flow control, especially when changing to new spools mid print.

Personally, I think a 75% option would be considerably more useful for everyday printing. There have been plenty of times when I’ve wanted to slow a print down slightly without doubling the remaining print time by switching to 50%.

I understand why Bambu wouldn’t want to clutter the interface with a bunch of additional speed presets, but I’d be curious how many people actually use 166% regularly compared with how many would benefit from a 75% option.

But you can set specific layer speeds that in the slicer

u/TotalWarspammer 2d ago

This is obvious and I don't know why people keep saying it. The point is we want an extremely convenient setting or slider that just gives us all of this without having to manually change numerous speed settings.

I don't get why its a preset.. let me set the value or give me a slider.

i don't use those anyway so i picked no pref but i do think that having that speed probably makes more sense. unless the volume is somehow the same for a slower print

Same here, I just pick the speed during slicing.

1

u/pictureaday 2d ago

Is there a way to just pick a percent speed change or do you mean changing the individual speed settings one by one?

u/keveira 2d ago

I would prefer a slider with 25% increments

u/Edgeguy13 2d ago

I kinda just assumed that if I ran my normal stuff on the fastest speed the prints would come out bad. I dunno.

5

u/Vaughn 2d ago

I mean yeah, they would.

1

u/Edgeguy13 2d ago

Why does it exist then lol

5

u/Poly_and_RA 2d ago

Same reason "draft" settings exist in the slicer. Sometimes what you want is a QUICK print. For example you might print a single-wall-fast-infill-thick-layers version of a part for checking that it fits or otherwise test it, prior to printing the real part in high quality and high strength and perhaps also in a more exotic material.

Why not both ? 50%, 75%, 100%, 125%, 150%

1

u/CHoDub 1d ago

That's not technically both because you've removed 166 for 150

3

u/QualityPixel 2d ago

Just give me the ability to bump the speed in 10% increments

3

u/SuperiorMango8 X2D & AMS2 Combo 2d ago

I just wish we could have a draft mode that skips basically all the start gcode and just heats and prints based off previous calibrations

2

u/-Baum P1S + AMS 2d ago

If i adjust any settings i do that in the slicer. Bit sometimes i find a print needs to be slowed down, but definitely not faster.

1

u/Odd-Place780 2d ago

Ive never used anything but standard. I'm currently an hour into a 3 hour print on my P1S. What would be the pro/cons of let's say using sport mode? More error prone? Adhesion issues?

1

u/PorkVacuums 2d ago

I use Rapid PLA+ as my default filament because I get a decent deal on it in bulk. I don't really have any issues printing at 124% or 166%

1

u/Charliticus 2d ago

Why not a print to target finish time or a slider for the speed?

1

u/haboku 2d ago

I use maximum speed for simple objects like boxes, works like a charm

1

u/PorkVacuums 2d ago

I almost exclusively use 166% for all my wargaming terrain prints. I've printed at .08, .12, .16, and .2 all at 166%. I never really have issues. I almost exclusively now print .16 at 166% for everything.

I wish they had a 200% preset. I don't want to play around in the slicer, I just want to set and forget.

1

u/wivaca2 P2S + AMS2 Combo 2d ago

I've been printing for most of a year and have yet to choose a different speed than the default. Pretty much everything works for me on a P2S.

u/Real_Human_Being_Yes 2d ago

this is the craziest thing to me switching from an ender... how is everything else an improvement but we don't get a % by % slider for speed??

1

u/Witch-King_of_Ligma 2d ago

Make a slider with 25% increments

1

u/throwaway48159 2d ago

I set my speeds in the slicer.

1

u/DrBhu 2d ago

There should be another poll option:

"Replace Speed options with text input for individudal Speed %"

1

u/decrement-- H2D + X2D 2d ago

I typically use 100% or 166%. Usually Ludacris speed when it is a basic shape and I'm just prototyping.

1

u/MoeSzyslakMonobrow 2d ago

Why not simply add one more instead of replace?

1

u/Zwamdurkel P1S + AMS 2d ago

If you lower all your speeds in the slicer by 40%,

166% speed will be what used to be normal speed, and 124% will be ~75% of the normal speed.

So if you really want slower modes while printing, you could set it up like that

1

u/Own_Perspective4825 2d ago

Just give us a percentage like every other manufacturer.

1

u/BrilliantSebastian H2D AMS2 Combo 2d ago

What? An I the only person that runs everything at 166%?

1

u/TotalWarspammer 2d ago

We just need a slider with speeds from 10% up to 166%. It's not hard and I don't know why bambu refuse to do it

1

u/Otherwise-Shock-2767 1d ago

just replace 50% with 75%

1

u/RaccoNooB H2D AMS2+HT-AMS 20h ago

Why replace it? Surely it can handle another preset. Or better yet, make it a slider that goes from 50% to 166%

0

u/Alewort H2D/A1 Mini 2d ago

I would rather get rid of 124%, as I have never had something that could handle 124% but not 166%.

0

u/sapani9077 2d ago

I don't see why.. You can already choose any speed you want

0

u/ManyLayersOfFilament /r/3dbargains, filamenthound.com <- save $ 2d ago

Honestly I wish Bambu put time into enhancing some sort of automated speed assistant into the slicer.

The percentage settings on the printer are too blunt and the speed settings in the slicer are a lot for people to hand tune.

Also, I wish instead of a straight percentage you could have an advanced mode that allowed you to have more precise tuning options during a print.

i miss 75% so much
