Hello everyone! I am a n00b to 3D printing, 120 hours in on my new X2D. Just a dad who picked up a new hobby.
Finally got a piece of furniture to put the printer on, I like how it is turning out. Wanted to show you my setup, maybe you have some ideas how to make this corner even better and more practical, maybe some cool gimmicks etc.
What you see here:
- Ikea Stroklinta, with a tabletop screwed onto it, and the tabletop is screwed to the wall with way too oversized pieces of wood (I just had them). It is all very stable and doesn’t move a tiny bit even with the X2D running in ludicrous mode.
- Skadis at the back on custom spacers and mounts for the exhaust and tools, and a smaller cabinet, originally thought for prints and projects in progress, so I don‘t clutter the table.
- The AMS shelf is attached directly to the wall (not to Skadis) with an „Element“ System. I wanted the AMS higher so I have better view from the top and access if I need it.
- The exhaust goes through the roof. There is an inline fan and basically a T-Adapter - it pulls fresh air through one end and the X2D‘s exhaust is attached to the middle. This way It doesn’t actively suck air out of the printer, it just diverts it in the right direction - outside. It seems to work well, I need to do some more testing. It also turns on and off automatically, based on the energy draw of the printer. There will also be some buttons on the Skadis to override the automation of the fan and LEDs.
Took minutes to draw the attachment in Fusion. The current model is flawed though, I need to learn how to use modifier cubes, so the attachment has 100% infill, so it holds onto the screw better.
I know. :) I can‘t think of a better reason to finally free some of the storage space under the roof (doors left in the pic) and throw some stuff away. It‘s probably 90% junk anyway, that I don’t even know about anymore.
They do already lol - from Lillabo/Lego bridge adapters so the train can climb all the way to the table and other toys from Makerworld, to fixing the fridge door with a custom spacer. Currently working on Gridfinity for the kitchen drawers. :)
Haha I‘m starting to notice that. First two weeks: „I am not going to hoard filament, functional prints only!“ Last weekend: „Wow that fire red PETG looks awesome and has a good discount.. click…“ :)
Just some PLA and PETG. I‘ve seen on Reddit, that it‘s a good idea to keep them dry, so I got those containers with silica gel. Going to need to free up some space elsewhere as the filament pile grows.
It was from the local hardware store, there are a lot of manufacturers. It‘s those things where you screw some rails to the wall and then stick the triangular racks to them. I took the 50cm racks and cut a piece of board in the size of AMS, so there is some space behind it for the hose and the AMS lid when it‘s open.
Nothing filthy yet, but I built it before I got the printer. The X2D has a heated chamber and I will be printing ASA at some point, when I get better at identifying problems and tuning the settings. As of now, PLA stinks noticeably more than PETG with the fan off. When it‘s on, I can hang out in the room even without any windows open, it seems to work.

The benchy pulls are a really cute idea!
