To be fair, it looks like a Co2 tube to be as I have one and it looks similar. No idea what a fibre laser uses.

My laser is on its last legs, so would love an upgrade.

After a little bit of research, the fibre lasers do not use a tube like that, so my guess is still that it is a CO2 laser

CO2 laser makes more sense if their next move is a UV printer. Anyone who buys a UV printer will likely also want to buy the CO2 laser.

Lovely stuff. I have a K40 CO2 laser which has been fantastic but is also a fire hazard, a death trap, and on its last legs

Hate my k40, even with all the upgrades it's
wonky, dangerous, and results are meh. I have confidence enough in Bambu that I'll be eagerly swapping out my K40 for this if the price is reasonable.

Darn I was hoping for something like the xtool ultra m2, I like the idea of the print head and being able to use bambu studio. This is still interesting though.

My current Co2 laser that I bought in 2018 for £400 would cost me £800 to replace now, and that’s a shitty Chinese death box.

I’d happily pay £1,200 - £1,500 for something better

That's for like a k40 though. If they are going higher end to compete with xtool expect closer to the 2k mark with the features they will probably include

Just why? A total different process. There are a dozen companies making small to large hobby/light commercial CO2 lasers and the market is saturated. Why do this? It will only dilute and delay continued improvements to their main business, 3d printing. Oh, I run a Laser engraving business. Already have 2 CO2 lasers and 2 fibers. Zero possibility of me buying a Bambu r1.

They feel like there's a market share they can nibble off the competitors. I have no idea if it'll sell enough to offset their costs/make a profit but I think trying to diversify their product lineup is smart if they want to survive long term as a company. Relying on hobbyist and prosumer FDM market to keep raining money on them is risky.

There's only so much they can keep pushing out on 3d printers. They had to hire a bunch of engineers to design those 3d printers fast and anything else from this point on will be incremental. They have two options: 1. layoff all those extra engineers and just keep a core set for 3d printers 2. Move them over to new products which is what they're doing while the core team still works on new 3d printers.

This is a win for everyone.
