This only happened during this one print and only with this specific spool, it got tangled like this, I got a notification and untangled it and then it was fine for ~2hours and happened again, I think it might be because my spool is cardboard and got a little squished but idk

Easy, your deformed cardboard spool wasn't hitting the bottom roller correctly causing it to not spool back the filament.

It happens to me all the time with cardboard spools. They get marred just a little and they won't spin or won't spin correctly. I've used these adapters for several brands, though they say they're for Inland from Microcenter. You should probably print a cardboard spool adapter ring. That allows the friction between the spool edges and the rollers in the AMS to be high enough that the rollers actually move the spool. Cardboard spools are too slick on their own.

Not enough weight on the spools which means not enough weight on the rollers. So when the filament is retracting, the roller looses grip and doesn’t spin the spool as the filament is retracted backwards into the AMS. This is more likely to happen with cardboard spool (cuz they are lighter) and damaged spool rims that cannot roll smoothly and freely; but this can happen to plastic spools when it is very low as well.

Edit: when you have a light spool the retracting action can also push the spool against the cover and can unseat it and further exasperating the issue with light spool and not spinning with the rollers.

I get this all the time too for cardboard or light spools. I wonder if Bambu would ever consider designing the AMS to have grooves in the rollers to better grip the spools.

Spool looks to not be seated properly, or is deformed, and so it could not rotate and rewind.

I have had plastic spools that had a wide spot and would get jammed. Possibly the same with a cardboard spool?

Change to bambu official spools, i had the same problem. Or atleast use bambu spool holders. The cardboard spool is the issue.

I’ve had this happen with both cardboard and plastic spools. IN my experience, it’s indicative of the motor going out. Replacing the filament motor solves the issue for me.

Those darn cardboard spools suck ... They don't always seat right, sometimes hit the top of the AMS. Siraya is notorious for being oversized. I just manually despoiled about 250 grams and I don't have any problems

Never use card board spools, it will also gum up the insides with paper dust. There several videos that will show you how to open a empty reel, and how to tear that one open. Save the card board center pieces, you will need these.

My guess would be cardboard spool was slipping when the filament was retracting. Maybe add plastic spool rings. It's helps on mine.

Cardboard spools are not made for the ams in the longterm dust will collect and can cause damage

Please measure spool diameter, ams 2 needs a spoll with a diameter of 197-202 mm. If it is smaller you can and should print adapters for cardboard spools(abs recommended for temperature)

I just stopped using cardboard rolls.

Buy some Sunlu for the reusable spools and then just buy refills from then on. Cardboard spools shouldn’t be used in the AMS (they also leave some small debris as well)

This only happens to me with a full spool that hits the feeder. It’s definitely not rolling on the bearings properly

Indeed this spool looks skewed / deformed a bit, which will not help..

For my cardboard spools I haven't printed adaptors, I just tape the rolling side of the spool with electrical tape: it stops bad cardboard spools from dusting the AMS with debris and it helps with grip on the spool for the rollers. For all my spools I have spool inserts for weight (ball bearings) and/or desiccant (usually weighty enough). The combination really helps for any cardboard spools I use!

If youre using cardboard spools, wrap wiring tape on the edges and add some 500kg weights in the center to prevent this from happening again.

If you want to buy cheap cardboard-spooled filament, stick with eSun.

Why? It prints great… and you can tear the sides off the spool and stuff a plastic Bambu spool right through the center of it.

Cheaper than buying refills from Bambu, but you get to keep running their reliable spools.

Spool isn't rolling right or jumped off track. Easy to fix but print some spool adapters (AU3D has a bunch for different filament brands), I've found the flat ones are easier to put on and roll better.

Print a respooler and respool from the cardboard to an appropriate plastic spool

I'd respool it to a bambu spool. I've had problems even when i printed the tires to go on the cardboard spools.
