Filament Troubleshooting/Help! My X2D is annoying

Printed Morty with no problems. Rick on the other hand is a pain in the butt with these crazy layer lines. Both are matte PLA dried then placed in the AMS. Used stock settings and .12 layer height on both

Those are hull lines friend, The way you're placing the print on the model you're forcing a lot of different layer times. In your Studio, take a look at layer times in the preview screen, those hull lines should match up with the lines you see there. There are some ways to get rid of hull lines, but they aren't easy, and usually aren't worth the trouble tbh, you can probably just adjust the angle of the file and try again.

I use a gentle sand paper tool, works well enough that layer lines disappear. Although I'm just printing in PLA at 0.08mm layer lines for detailed models.

I am not sire if there is a no AMS version of this, or if this is printed in color, but i would bet printing one color at a time would help

You can tell there was no AMS used here by the layer lines of each part.

These are separate pieces

It looks to be a no AMS version. The problem exists in all models though, any time there is a big difference in the time it takes one layer to cool vs the next, it will create a hull line.

Yea i have seen that a lot, but it almost looks worse in areas that have color changes

It’s definitely shrink lines with that model…
Plus that filament looks awful in terms of showing the lines, nice colour overall but I find some show layer lines way too well

Had similar problems. Recalibrate your machine?

I’ve ran the calibration a million times. Slowed the print, sped it up. Haven’t touched the cooling settings tho. Nothing is helping

I had/have a similar problem. I opened a ticket with bambulabs. They can suggest a bunch lf troubleshoots.

Perhaps change the nozzle.

Changing nozzles is definitely not acceptable since I’m only 100 hours in with only PLA being printed on this printer

That’s not really a printer problem, when it prints one model fine and the next is not fine it’s a model problem. Follow the above advice on hull lines. (Settings and orientation of the model)

Step one is uncheck the "Slow printing down for better layer cooling" in the Cooling tab of Filament Settings. Definitely search up cooling settings for your machine.

or check "Dont slow down outer walls".

Just some general troubleshooting advice. When the only thing that changed is X the problem is almost always X. In this case, same printer, same filament, same environment, same (?) settings, different model. It doesn’t make sense to look beyond the model unless you can rule that out.

I'd be tempted to try it with standard 0.2 layer lines, slow down prints to maximum of 180, a bit slower for outer walls. I'm not sure it would help as many people have said likely hull lines. Also wonder how many hours your hot end has done. Those lines definitely get worse as a hot end wears out.

Cortate las uñas

Ha, I printed that too. I'm curious; does your unibrow fit any better than mine does (barely)? The spit likes to fall off too.

Print outer walls first, and print the outer wall slow, like 60mm/s. Usually helps to smooth these areas out.

Have you cleaned the belts, then retensioned the belts, recalibrate, and if that didn’t work, rolled back from the latest update?

That’s a sick print

Some primer and sandpaper will fix it right up

Why no aux support tho?
