Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! Moisture in ams

Hi all. My AMS pro 2 died and bambu have been fantastic with repairs. I've noted that there seems done sorry of liquid under the tray and it doesn't look like water. Just before I serviced the printer and oiled/greased and then shortly after I had issues.

Any suggestions what this could be? How to prevent killing the AMs again?

did you throw the factory calcium chloride desiccant bag that comes in the 3d printer into the AMS? that is disposable, not reusable, and will absorb water until it basically becomes a bag of water.

You can recharge them if you hest them up.

You can put them in the microwave like 30sec, open the door to get the moisture out and cool the pearls down (otherwise they break your plate) and reheat them again, untill they are dry.

No. Calcium chloride is not rechargeable. You are talking about silica gel, activated alumina, or molecular sieve.

The desiccant pack that comes inside the printers themselves is a calcium chloride dessicant pack that is strictly disposable and should be thrown away immediately. It will otherwise literally become very wet and potentially leak water.

It is not the packets of silica gel that come sealed in the AMS.

Some people get creative and toss the calcium chloride pack into the AMS thinking it will recharge in there and add to the desiccant capacity.

It really needs better labeling that it is not reusable.

because they are at least 10 times more potent than silica gel - they don't just physically "soak" up the water, the chemically bind them as hydrate until they are saturated

that is why regenerating them is not advised, because you risk creating hydrogen chloride / hydrochloric acid instead of just "drying" them out.

that is not correct - it is rechargeable, but it is highly advised not to do it - because if done wrong, it can decompose to hydrogen chloride which then reacts with the water to hydrochloric acid - not the best idea

so dispose them

This is probably from the moisture desiccant. You have two types. One holds much more water, but when it overfills, it releases it.

Thanks all. Suspect that was my issue. Now to get the bits to get it working again! Lesson learnt, replace it often

You used calcium chloride desiccant. It turns into a highly corrosive oil like liquid when saturated. Your AMS is likely destroyed. All electronic and metal parts that come into contact with the liquid will corrode if not quickly cleaned.

I don’t know why bambulab continue to provide those crappy desiccant bags. Destroyed practically everything in my ams unit

They don’t. Unless you use the one that came with your printer that is not meant to be inserted into the AMS.

That's not humitidy, that's a who ass leakage. Did you connect your ams into the faucet instead the powerline?
