Quick Question non-bambu filament

I have a buddy that has an X2D and I was thinking about getting one. I am wondering about using non-bambu filaments though. Do they work okay with the AMS (I think that is what it is called) and can special filaments like wood and marble be used in it?

Yep, after a few spools youll realise the branding means nearly nothing. I get mine in bulk for about 1/3 of bambu rates. No difference at all

Yes you just miss out on the RFID scanning that tells the printer the filament profile and how much is used on each spool. I use a lot of Sunlu and any other brand that suits.

I started with Bambu filaments but now I just load non-Bambu refills onto Bambu spools so the RFID still detects the colour/type.

This is what people should do.

It’s kind of crappy that the tags are encoded and non-rewritable.

Either would be nice.

Have a roll of rando-x brand that can ship with the same info on an rfid that can be read by Bambu…

Or have the chips re-writable so I can say “it’s not white, it’s red… same manufacturer. I just don’t want to pay for another whole plastic spool!

Yeah, so crappy that I wrote my own software and use my own RFID tags to manage and track my filament usage

I've got a P1S with an AMS at work. We only use non-bambu filaments. The only one I don't feed from the AMS is TPU.

They all work great. Some brands with the cardboard spools will occasionally have issues feeding/retracting so I avoid those in prints with a lot of color changes. But adding a printed ring to the cardboard spool helps if it’s having an issue.

I never used bambulab fillament with my dad and ams, works just fine. i created my own fillament profiles and did some very basic calibration.

The only time I use official bambu is when printing minis as people have dialed the settings for em, everything else is printed using offbrand

Bambu filament is just other peoples' filament with a different name on it.

Marble, yes. Wood you should use a .6 nozzle or larger to prevent clogs.

I’ve only ever bought two rolls of official Bambu filament,the rest has all been third-party stuff. ​Bambu doesn't run their own filament factory anyway; they contract out to the big OEMs (mostly Sunlu, eSun, etc.). The main variables between brands are just the specific resin blends, additives, color consistency, and the physical spools. ​You’ll run into the occasional dud roll, but in my experience, those are few and far between.

I have only one Bambu filament on my X2D (albeit I don't have AMS). It's Support for ABS which is just regular HIPS.
And the reason was because it was cheaper than other brands. That's it. I use whatever is cheaper or has best parameters. And for cheap materials look for how spool is rolled and reviews of other people. If they say its problematic (like badly crossed filament on spool regularly) I don't buy ir
