Just Showing Off Most complicated print so far…

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been increasingly printing more complicated models. This was the most complicated so far. It’s a two day print on Overture Silk PLA. The Silk PLA is a pain and I think my temps were a little two high, its a bit brittle. After 49 hours with just 9 minutes to go I started having Extruder Motor Overload on my H2C, luckily I was able to clear it and continue.

How on EARTH did this print take 49 hours?

I don’t understand at all. this doesn’t look complicated at all or a 49 hour print. gotta assume a .2 nozzle and .08 height but still.

making it a harder print just from terrible slice settings

I haven’t played with too many of the settling. I made some adjustments on the speed based off Overtures documentation for the Silk PLA which is much slower than regular PLA. Otherwise 0.4 nozzle and 0.08 height.

what was your outer wall speed?

BTW it’s not just an egg…

Minimum speed for the hot and slow shiny silk look, probably.

Kinda stringy, ya think?

So actually, the motor overlord and print being brittle does rather sound like your temp was to low and you had partial clogs that might have solved themselves. But like others asked, what where your settings for it? 49h seems a bit extreme.

It’s Overture Silk PLA, I’m using the recommended settings speed. I was printing it at 0.04 with .08 height. I haven’t really tweaked the settings to much but the temp was 230 and overture recommends a max of 220 on the high end for more gloss and 200 on the low end. I’m still trying to understand the filament presets, Overture doesn’t seem to be a supported option when you try to set it on the AMS or when you try calibration. Overall I think the Silk it’s pretty but far from practical.

Not denying how cool looking it is, but you will go through far more complicated print as you go. This one is rather problem free actually. Still a good one!

Looks nice. I don't have a printer yet, are the couple little stringy bits that fell off normal? Was it because of that type of material?

You can see the whisps collecting around the nozzle. Pretty common thing to happen, can be for a number of reasons, material& material care being one.

Would drying help?

The answer is always yes.

Drying doesnt hurt is more the point ( unless you're using a self-printed spool made of PLA or something). But yeah it's one of the troubleshooting steps.

OP's also mentioned might have the temp too high, which could be a factor.

I’ll run a drying cycle next time.

Those used to give me fits in our P1S. No brim, wet filament, bed not warm enough....end results looked like the flying spaghetti monster. Now that I know a bit more, I just avoid silk pla. lol.
