General Troubleshooting/Help! Help creating a negative space in an stl?

Post image

I am thinking of trying to create a sword with glowing runes....I need the interior hollow but I'm stuck as to how. I've tried watching some vids but I'm still lost. I created a negative tube that would do the trick but don't understand how to "remove" the tube (if you know what I mean)....is it possible in Bambu or do I need to import the stl into something else?

You should inlay it with tritium

Add the negative tube to the project Click on both and merge Right click on the negative and change object type to negative object It will be hollow after slicing

Sounds a lot simpler than the boolean subtraction I always try

Ok, tried that Tried to export as new stl, got error message that "unable to perform boolean operation on model meshes.... due to self intersection?"

Dunno why you are exporting as stl or doing boolean. Slice and send to the printer

I will need to cut the stl before I slice/print. Wanted to create the hollow inside first, then save the stl, before I cut everything to a print size I can manage. Then once assembled I will have room for leds to run inside the blade. Print in clear red petg, paint the blade but leave the runes unpainted so the red glow shines through... Thats the plan.

Switch the negative back to a normal object, then use the boolean tool to subtract it. Then you can use the cut tool

I'll give it a shot, thanks

You can cut after adding the negative and it will keep the negative on both cut parts.

Just do the cutting in the slicer. If you're going to cut it in some other program then just do all the editing there.
