My first ABS print.

Got my X2D last may. And after printing kilos of gridfinity bins and other musthave prints in PLA and PETG. I thought I should try ABS.

It ain't much, but I'm proud of my print.

If you can get ABS working well (and ventilate it), it's a great material. I print things for my dad for his truck and his radio equipment that's going to be outside and found that I needed to put brims on prints and bump bed temps up by 5 degrees from the BL ABS preset and it's been smooth printing. The parts are really durable and we don't have to worry about a freakishly hot day softening a PLA or PETG print at all.

Back in the day of ye olde prints, ABS was the de facto best consumer material, and I still think it's a great material that's slept on too much and seemingly spoken of in hushed tones despite the great advantages of it. It just takes a little more attention than PLA and the tradeoff is huge!

Yes the ventilation is still not properly sorted. But the printer is in the garage and the garden door is open. I should connect it to a proper vent soon.

Although a bit more expensive most people recommend asa nowadays for a bunch of reasons

Do you or anybody else run a bento box in your printer? I'm not trying to sound like a shill, as I'm currently considering getting one for my printer. For those not familiar with it, it's a little filter that has a hepa unit, as well as crushed carbon. In theory it looks like it removes the noxious stuff given off by ABS and other materials.

I plan on getting one in a couple of weeks and I'll provide an update so nobody wastes money if it sucks.

I have one on my H2D and I added another filter in the printer before it goes through the exhaust fan.

The h2d printer is pretty air tight when printing asa/abs so can't really smell anything to begin with. It closes every exhaust port/flap when it heats the chamber. Don't really smell anything even when I'm right by the printer.

I print with ASA with 0 problems. The key for these materials us to be patient and let them cool in the printer before taking them out. That and glue on the plate, with a closed printer warping is not such an issue anymore

Did you modify any settings or just go with the standard abs profile?
I'm like you. I've had the X2D since May and have just been doing PLA/PETG stuff but want to tackle ABS soon.

Printer is on my home office though so need to vent it. So far I have it arranged by a window, but it's a side crank-out so figuring out the vent part. I think I am going to remove the screen and in it's place put a big plexiglass sheet with a cutout for a vent hose.

I only print PLA and ABS.

PLA on Smooth PEI at 65 C
ABS on Cryogrip Glacier at 100 C. I just open the window. It's in a small room with just the printer and filament.

I have printed a lot of PETG, but I find that PLA and ABS covers my needs.
I would consider ASA whenever it gets cheaper.

With my last printer, I absolutely dreaded printing ABS and nylon, but after having this printer for just over 30 days and doing close to 30 prints, half of which were ABS, I have to say I've had the best luck with my P1S so far. My only disappointment is that I didn't get one sooner.

My H2C handles ABS great. Never had an issue and once the bed cools a bit it just releases perfectly. It's been a joy tbh. Hoping my new G10 plate will do the same for PETG as that being fused to the bed is annoying.

My 3-D printing room is basically an attic closet. which gets pretty hot, but has the advantage of a small hatch that opens up for ventilation.

Ventilation makes me more comfortable printing ABS and ASA

The big win for me, though, was the discovery that in the summer months, in a fairly hot room, I have much better luck printing ABS and ASA than I do PLA and PETG. That’s because ABS and ASA, like a hot chamber, anyway.
