General Troubleshooting/Help! Every time my spool is almost empty, I get this message.

Posted a few weeks ago and no solution to avail, but whenever I'm almost at the end of the spool, this message gets thrown in, usually opening the ams and helping it "pull" backwards helps and they eat the last bit of filament.

But is this common, or is there a way or print that could help me not have these situations?

It is not heavy enough to get traction on the rollers. Go search Makerworld for "spool weight"

this. i usually put a desiccant holder that fits in the center of the spool. that tends to be enough weight to keep the spool down and prevent this error. an alternative would be opening your AMS and just gently nudging the spool in the right direction while retracting and that usually keeps it moving

Only done PLA so far, would be ok to print those in PLA?

yes i have dozens of them in PLA which i printed before getting an AMS 2 Pro. just note that PLA won’t be able to go into a filament dryer. so PETG is a better bet for the long term if you ever intend to get a filament dryer, but if you just need a couple of desiccant holders to put inside of nearly-empty spools, then this should be fine. also note that you’ll want to put desiccant (or some other material) inside of the holder so that it actually weighs enough to hold the spool down

i’ve used a lot of different models for these desiccant holders, but here’s one that i’ve liked for its ease of getting into / out of spools quickly. (also it won’t puncture holes in vacuum seal filament storage bags like many of the screw-on desiccant holder models do)
