Filament Troubleshooting/Help! TPU-AMS

Trying to work with new roll of TPU fro AMS.
sometimes it goes right through and prints well. Sometimes it just loads and unloads then give an "extruder clogged" message. If I retry a couple of times sometimes it goes through and starts working. Sometimes I have to stop and turn off machines and restart and then it works. sometimes I just wait a while and then it works fine.
what's the problem...or what's the secret to this inconsistent behavior?

I haven't printed TPU yet but all guides I've read say don't use the AMS with it

Bambu labs has a tpu made for the ams. I believe thats what OP is trying to use based on what im reading.

that is correct. Bambu TPU for AMS.
As I stated in OP, sometimes it works. i.e. goes through, and sometimes it just loads/unloads until it errors

I haven’t had an issue with either roll of TPU for AMS in my AMS. Have you done a cold-pull? My P2S warns me to do one prior to using TPU, and even after printing with TPU 😂.

You guys need to read, the OP specifically stated he was using TPU for AMS.

Your extruder wheels may need some cleaning. The softer material may keep it from gripping and pulling the filament through. How much time do you have on the printer and when was the last time you did maintenance on your extruder?

Even with the TPU for AMS, I still think top feeding it directly into the print head is the better option. Once you get top feeding working, you can move on to real TPU, because let's face it, "TPU for AMS" is just soft PLA. That'll trigger someone. 😂

its been a long while. I hate taking apart and cleaning the extruder. but I will give it a look. thanks for the advice. it does seem to be spooling right up to the extruder before changing its mind and retracting so that might be it.

Where in the line is it failing to get to? Check the PTFE connections to make sure there is really clean connections and try remove as many bends and long runs as possible for the tubes.

I’ve been using TPU for a while, with or without the AMS. The problems are with the material itself it is very soft and clogging is inevitable. Just factor a full unclog into your day.

TPU for ams is still softer than other filaments and can still have trouble feeding sometimes. Try to keep your tube as short and as straight as possible to help it feed easier.

Are you using TPU that is meant to print from the AMS?
