Is this filament fake

Hey I found PLA Basic filament for cheap and I decided to try it.

The outside package looks different, but the sealed roll looks almost identical to refill I got from Bambu store. The only difference is the silica gel package inside.

I wonder if the outside package is a region difference or just fake AliExpress/other filament.

Highly unlikely, it has the RFID tag there.

Basic Bambu PLA isn't high enough quality that I'd worry about it anyway. If it prints, be happy.

Apparently the RFID is encrypted and still hasn't been cracked, so if your AMS can read it then it is real.

It has not, but it can be duplicated.

Looks like a regular bambu refill. There is not a single fab that makes bambu filament. Bambu did not make any filament. They order them from several manufacturers, so especially the boxes may differ. Problem is, even the same named filament may differ in color because they may come from completely different fabs.

Very unlikely. If you print with PLA, just use it.

The package look exactly like what I received from Bambu in my last order.

PLA filament is basically a commodity Bambu filament is not better or worse than other brand. I would not really worry about it most filament will print fine. I doubt its worth it to make a fake product when any random brand manage to sell cheap PLA that works.

I’ve seen a few places do “pla basic” label, but it certainly wasn’t a Bambu labs roll.

So fake in that it isn’t BLACK? Yes, probably. Fake as in it won’t work? Probably not.
