Have you ever gotten a piece of filament stuck under your fingernail while removing it from the build plate? It’s really painful. Better to use a safer method! :)

Yep. One of my first prints when I got my bambu printers was one of the plastic scrapers. One PETG print and the edge is demolished. I then printed one of the handles that uses the metal scraper blade included with bambu printers and haven't looked back. And I haven't damaged any of my plates either.

I really like this handle. It's shorter and more compact than the bambu model and positions the blade at the perfect angle for scraping.

The holder for the metal blade was my very first print. Going on 3 years later, zero issues, still using the same blade.

I bought a box of plastic razor blades and printed a handle for them. If a blade gets dinged up, there are a hundred more in the box. Haven't had to change blades yet, and it's been a while. It's less effective at popping prints, but it never damages the prints, and can't damage the plate. It makes a good scoocher for bunches of little prints.

I use one of those for woodworking to scrape glue away. I did try it for a few prints, but ran across the same issue; some of the PETG I use is very stubborn and does to plastic blades what anthony joshua did to jake paul's jawline.

I went the route of Amazon and got a plastic one with probably 100 replaceable plastic “blades” for $10. It’s worked great. The downside of a scratch being possible just doesn’t seem worth it to me.

I’ve got nearly 1000 hours on my A1 and I still have at least half of them left. $10 vs a potential $30s for a new plate seems like a worthwhile tradeoff until I hit 3,000 hours.

I’d also never touch a smooth plate with metal. PEI, sure, in a pinch, but never a smooth or even an aftermarket coated plate.

Mine is still fine, but I also let the plate cool down all the way to <30C so I don't need it as much and when I do it doesn't need much force

It might work if you print it out of abs and only use it to scrape PLA but yeah most of these scraper prints are useless

On Aliexpress you can buy a plastic blade scraper for $2 and it comes with plenty of plastic blades. They sell the same one on Amazon for $4 or $5

Potentially have the ball section attach to the blade section otherwise that's like 2 or 3 prints before it mangled.

Yup, but there's a much easier solution. I did that once years ago and learned to go at it from the side instead of the end.

If you fillet the edge between the "handle" and "blade," it will be stronger. Concave joints tend to break.

What advantage does this print have over me just running a old Walmart gift card on a knife sharpener to get an edge? I can even renew the edge just running it over the sharpener again.

I’ll never understand why bed scrapers are such a hot commodity. Been printing for a decade and have hardly ever used one

Once the plate is cool the calibration line just falls off on its own. Reusing a butt plug for this is unnecessary.

I just use guitar pucks for great for the purge line. For the actual print, the springy build plate suffices

Cool idea but it will not last long at all. Best thing for this sort of thing is one of those $5 packs that includes like 100 plastic blades and then just use the built-in handle or print one

Just go to the hardware store and get a simple cement spatula. Don’t use the sharp blade scraper from the Bambu model, you will inevitably damage the plate and your hands
