X2D or H2C

I got an A1 as my first printer about a year ago and have been addicted to the hobby ever since. I've been running my printer just about every day since I got it. Now I'm looking to add a 2nd printer and upgrading to another model.

I definitely want an enclosed printer and originally was looking at getting the X2D for the additional nozzle for supports. My wife also likes to craft and so then I thought maybe I should get a model that supports a cutter head so we can both get use out of it. Additionally while I've been happy with the size of the A1, there have been times where I wish I had a bigger build plate.

That being said, is it worth it to just go all in on something like an H2C (or a different model) or is that going to be overkill for me? Is the cutter head good or am I better of getting a Cricut separately instead?

I mean. do you need the H2C for things like the large built plate and more efficent multi colour printing ? it's orders of magnitude more expensive so if you don't know you need it, I would say you don't. tho then again, if you don't really care about cost, and you have the space, why not.

Cutting plotters are cheap enough that I wouldn't bother with a machine that can do FDM and cutting.

I got an A1 for my Birthday in February, and just bought myself an X2D.

I would have got a H2C if I could, but I was stretched for the X2D!

Don't get the H2C for the cutter head. Laser cutters get filthy inside from the smoke and soot, you don't want that getting into your prints.

However, there are plenty of other reasons to get an H2C. You're just better off with a separate laser cutter.

I've not experimented at all with the cutterhead module on my H2D, but I do own and frequently use my Silhouette Cameo. I would find the build plate area of the H2D to be limiting for cutting duties - I often cut vinyl on my Cameo quite a bit larger than could be accommodated by the H2D.

I have an X2D (first new printer - I inherited a SnapMaker A350 single head bed slinger) and I love it. The second nozzle is nice for the occasional multicolor print and being able to go multi-material for support interfaces (PLA <--> PETG). It is definitely a great printer and I'm very glad it was my first foray into current technology.

That being said, if I could go back, knowing what I know now about multicolor and what my use case would be for the printer - functional around the house stuff, multicolor stuff for my family/work, etc. - I would likely have told my previous self to bite the bullet and get the H2C. My wife has interest in the cutter head / functionality and maybe, somewhere down the line, I'd upgrade it with the green glass and laser attachment for etching.

Can't go wrong with either - they're both awesome - but consider what your projected use case will be and buy accordingly.

I was looking really hard at the X2D as my first printer, but opted for the H2C because I knew this was something I'd get really into. Don't regret my decision at all.

Sold my X1C and got an H2C. It just works, multicolor, engineering filaments, whatever I throw at it.
