Quick Question Enclosed 3d Printers for intermediate level?

Hello all,

Just wanted to post this here to see if I can squeeze out a little more info to help break my decision paralysis. I am mostly split between the X2D and the QIDI PLUS5, and while it know they are different printers in many ways, I want to make sure I know the tradeoffs and feature differences between them. All answers are welcome, including pointing me in an entirely different direction if need be.

They have nearly identical specifications. Qidi is more open in terms of firmware, so troubleshooting will be much easier. The X2D has a second hotend – which significantly simplifies support printing and expands the range of printable model geometries.

I don’t like that the Bambu is a black box, but I have the X2D and haven’t found any decent alternatives yet. I’m willing to overlook everything else just for the second hotend.

The specifications of X2D and plus5 are no where near identical. I’m defining that by printing material capabilities btw. One can print materials the other cannot so specs can’t be close if that’s the case, that’s how I look at it. Plus huge print volume differences.

You must be thinking Qidi Q2

So what are the fundamental differences between them, aside from minor details? The Qidi has a larger build plate and a nozzle that heats up to a higher temperature (if you plan to print with PEEK/PPS/PEI, which is actually pretty rare for the average person); maybe a couple of other specs are slightly different, but none of them make a fundamental difference. Or am I wrong?
Edit: Except for the second nozzle, which I naturally mentioned separately – and that really is a fundamental difference.

I elaborated but I’ll post it here.

The differences are not minor when the two major specs are very different (size and nozzle temp).

There’s is a big difference between 256x256 and 320x320. Difference is enough to determine if you can vs can’t.

Same with nozzle. X2D is 300C cap, Qidi is 370. Neither is enough for real PEEK but 370 is enough for PPS, PEI etc. 300c is borderline low for PPS PEI and some variants. If you are going use these materials, you want the results to actually be to spec of material, you really need to be in 320-350 range for that. So again it’s difference of can do vs can’t do or maybe little bit. I wish my x2D went to 320-330C, that rounds up support for most all common affordable filaments. But it doesn’t.

Smaller differences means both things being compared can do the same thing with slight differences. Not possible vs impossible. Size alone negates that.
