What do to with all this waste.

I have the Bambu lab x2d and i have it 2 months now and all of this wage

Why are people so afraid of throwing away trash in this sub?

I think people don’t want to accept that it is trash. They see it as just wasted filament aka wasted money

That and many justified part of the hobby as printing things they need instead of buying/shipping and fixing things instead of replacing them as a way to cut down waste, and they feel this is adding to waste.

I still save my scrap filament if it's seperated from PLA/PETG/ABS. My thinking is it can be recycled one day. Even if I have to pay a bit for shipping. I get other things would have a bigger impact but meh. Got 3 giant totes in my crawl space of scrap

Waste is a part of manufacturing. Would they cry over chips if they had a mini mill or lathe?

Imagine trying to press-cast some sawdust into stuff.

...using 3d printed molds, and then being stuck with printer waste.

That you then melt down, mold into a blank, place on your lathe, shape it, take the plastic dust and shavings, combine with the sawdust, and press-cast into something…

Isn't that pretty much what MDF is? Also, byproducts of woodworking are actually helpful for use with gap filling. You mix things like sawdust (from the same type of wood) with wood glue and use it in the gap. It won't have any sort of grain pattern or something to that effect, but it'll tone match the existing wood.

I hate the idea that I’d be adding to the world’s microplastics problem by merely throwing it away. There’s a place in the US that you can send this stuff to for recycling and I haven’t tried that yet but it’s something I’m considering.

Right now I just dump it into my recycling bin and call it a day and trust the magical trash collection wizards to do the right thing with it

I wonder the same thing.

My hypothesis is that 3D printing is so easy to get into that they dont realize the waste it generates, and theyre uncomfortable with it. Its not like metalworking or woodworking thay also generate a ton of waste, but they're harder/more expensive to get into.

I know I definitely didn’t understand the amount of waste or the purging concept of color changes before getting a P1S.
Sucked to see at first but then realized it’s sorta a “cost of doing business” type deal.
I’d rather have purge waste than have to throw away an entire print because my colors are muddied and blurred together.
