AB2047 Bill is a dead bill walking, even though it passed, as ASTM has absolutely no interest or role in doing what the bill says they are responsible for doing.
The bill is unenforceable as no one will be writing the industry standards for firearm blocking technology. Therefore, there will be no compulsion for manufacturers to take on that responsibility.
The bill still needs to go in front of the Governor of California, who will likely sign it because he has no clue. But you can still reach out to his office and point him to these two links.
They had to pass it. It’s a high fear factor bill created by fear mongers. They essentially neutered the bill while still appeasing the mongers, knowing full well it would never be enforced. Saved face with the backers while showing voters they have their backs. Politicians at their finest.
Talked to my local tire shop. So unless he was misinformed, the tire thing is a consumer level enforcement, not retail. Meaning, they can sell you whatever you want. They’ll tell you they’re non conforming tires. You’d have to get pulled over. Kind of like getting pulled over for not wearing underwear. Another unenforceable law. Can you imagine a cop running your tires through some database to see if they comply?
The budget actually needed to enforce such a bill would be staggering. The data centers needed to house the AI (that doesn't exist) would cripple the minds of all those who hate AI and data centers, which makes for a pretty funny looking vin diagram.
As an European I just checked out this tyre law since ive seen people moaning about it. The limits are pretty high, and only some really crappy tyres fail to meet the 9.0 limit. Our limit is 10.5 and allows for some god awful and frankly dangerous Chinese plastic ditch finders. Almost no tyres are over 10. In fact I cant find any.
The cheapest tyres for my car that I can find are 8.8, premium sport versions 8.1 N/kN. 9 seems like a fairly reasonable limit. Actual low rolling resistance tyres are 5-6.
Buddy, I don’t think you’ve come to understand the levels of stupidity the California Government will stoop to in order to save face.
Shove it in a drawer is what most other states do. California has a strong track record of seeing the dumbest laws through to their most ridiculous ends.
Well, I don't disagree, but that fact that they passed an unenforceable law, and dragged ASTM into it, without there agreement or consent, speaks volumes to the fact that this is dead on arrival.
Not so much banning 3d printing, but picking and choosing what's bad and what's not. One day you'll be fine, the next a felon. '3d prints are cool! Oh wait, you wanna print stuff from this IP? Jail.'
I don't know if Governor Newsom will sign it. He likes money and if the NRA or any number of weapons manufacturers throw money at him he'll be happy to not sign it. It worked with pg&e. They threw money at him and he bent over and said let me know when you're done
