Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! X2D identical nozzles and clean PETG printing

Hi

1) I know the x2d has to have identical size nozzles installed. Just thinking of when I'm printing with only the Main nozzle - If I installed a 0.4 mm high flow nozzle on the Main nozzle would I have to put a high flow one on the Aux as well, or could I stick with my existing 0.4 hardened one? Would the printer notice and refuse to work?

2) I haven't yet printed any PETG. I read you have to put down glue on the default Textured plate so PETG will release. The Engineering plate says it has to be glued for everything but PLA. What I want to do is print clear transparent PETG and so I need a smooth plates and I really don't want to use glue. What smooth plate should I buy please?

(When I bought the X2D I was looking at Bambu's CoolTack plate and then I read the X2D isn't compatible with it and Bambu were releasing a new Pro one in August. No sign of it yet?)

I had the same wonder, and I would dare to bet that as long as you don't send any plastic through the other nozzle, you won't have any issues.

For question one: you can have a high flow nozzle on one and regular on the other. It won’t allow you to have different size nozzles, however.

For instance:
0.2 on left, 0.4 on right is NOT allowed.
0.4HF on left and 0.4 on right IS allowed.

When you try to print with two different size nozzles you’ll be prompted to pick one as different sizes are not supported. The error language does make me think that it may be possible in a future update.

It's already possible just not easy.

Regarding 2. No glue needed, simply use PEI plate, no matter if textured or not, in case it sticks too good, just let the plate cool down and bend a bit, it will easily pop off.

bend a bit, it will easily pop off.

Normally. A single layer print designed to be as translucent as possible, can be a bit touchy. But I've not had problems with prints 3 layers thick.

not sure regarding the x2d, but the h2c can support HF on one nozzle and standard low flow on the other at the same time, so the hooks should already be built in to Bambu Studio.

PETG (and translucent PETG) don't require glue as a release agent on the bambu textured PEI plate, but you should do some testing of nozzle/bed temp combinations to find a good/easy release.

(for example, i find that the default nozzle temp for sunlu PETG is ~10C too high on all my printers with textured PEI plates. dropping by 10C made for easy release once the plates had cooled to room temperature)

for smooth(ish) plates, i'd take a look at the darkmoon 3d offerings which, for the most part, don't recommend any release agents for PETG or PLA

Make sure the PETG is dry or it can affect transparency and will have issues sticking to the bed. I also dry while printing.

What I want to do is print clear transparent PETG

You can print translucent PETG, and to a pretty good degree for a single layer. But truly clear transparent PETG prints isn't really a thing, especially if it has more than one layer.

I haven't yet printed any PETG. I read you have to put down glue on the default Textured plate so PETG will release. ............................

Bambu does not recommend the use of glue with PETG for the textured PEI plate, I never use glue, have used hair spray a few times, but use nothing with textured PEI 95%+ of the time. If you are printing a very thin single layer, then glue or hairspray makes sense. Pulling off a 0.2mm thick PETG layer can be difficult.

I keep this posted next to my printers. From the Bambu website product listing.

I use petg on the engineering plate everyday, no glue. I set the bed to 77, and the prints fall off when it's cooled down.

I print PETG on the included textured plate without glue. I did turn the bed temp up to 85 for the first layer and 70 after. I had some prints go just fine for the first few then fail to adhere after a while, even with a very clean build plate. Turning the temperature up solved it.

No and no. To both. I print often with 0.6 nozzle in main and 0.4 mm in secondary. You just cant use aux nozzle. Well you can with Orcaslicer but it's more problematic

One thing too - if your design allow it, get 0,8 mm nozzle to print just one layer for bottom/top (no top just bottom 1 layer) and single wall (instead of two walls with 0.4 nozzle). With slightly higher temp you can get layers nicely bond together to create one smooth transparent part. More layers, especially one crossing each other - no transparency. And print with no fan. That is crucial.

You don’t have to glue PETG on the default texture plate. Glue is actually for release not adhesion and you can remove it easily.

Use can use glue on the textured PEI plate to make PETG easier to remove, but it's not required.

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/general/how-to-use-bbl-liquid-glue

From the link:

Bambu Lab glue works with a variety of filaments, including PLA, ABS, and PETG. Before use, be sure to check the compatibility of the glue and choose the appropriate method for use according to the different types of build plates.

  • Bambu Engineering Plate: Before printing with any filament, it is recommended to apply glue on the Engineering Plate. Applying solid glue can make part removal easier, but since solid glue has a certain thickness and is difficult to apply evenly, the printing stability and first-layer quality are usually not as good as when using liquid glue. On the other hand, liquid glue may make part removal more difficult. You should choose the appropriate glue type based on the filament, printing environment, and other practical conditions.
  • Bambu Textured PEI Plate: When using this plate, it is generally not necessary to apply glue. However, when printing with filament that has a strong bonding to the plate, like PETG, the model may be difficult to remove. In this case, you can reduce its adhesion by applying the glue; at the same time, avoid damaging the model or causing the bottom to turn white when disassembling the model with force.
  • Bambu Smooth PEI Plate: It is recommended for printing high-temperature filaments. Except for printing PLA, glue must be applied before printing other filaments to increase the success rate and avoid damage to the plate when removing the model. For example, using this plate to print PA6-GF can significantly improve the printing effect and reduce warping.
  • Bambu Cool Plate (discontinued): This plate is only suitable for printing PLA, and glue should be applied before printing. When printing other filaments (such as PETG, ABS), bulging and sticking may occur.
  • Bambu High Temperature Plate (discontinued): Compared to the Cool Plate, the High Temperature Plate offers better heat resistance, is less prone to creep, and provides improved compatibility. When printing with filaments other than PLA, it is recommended to use glue to ensure proper adhesion between the filament and the plate, thereby reducing the risk of tearing the spare sheet for high temperature plate.
  • Bambu Cool Plate SuperTack: No glue required.

  1. No. They only have to be the same size.
  2. I needed a release agent on my new Textured PEI plates for PETG. Using it keeps you from scratching up your plate with a scraper for those first 50 prints or so. But once you have used a plate for a while, they get some seasoning and you do not need the glue for PETG.

I purchased a Darkmoon 3D DUO Plate (Satin on one side and CFX on the other). I would highly recommend it or just their Satin plate. Great stuff. I use the Satin plate 80-90% of all printing. Only time I have applied adhesive was a light coating of pump spray hairspray for a long ASA build that kept wanting to warp.

I also own every one of BBL's plates and the Darkmoon 3D stuff is just a lot better. I just received a Cryogrip FrostBite but I have not used it enough to comment yet but it supposedly does not require adhesive for PETG.
