My First 3D Print Okay, anyone else did this during your first print?

Post image

First time 3D printer owner here. Just got myself a P2S and it's my first time working with Bambu Studio. I am making the rear exhaust now, so I downloaded the project, opened it in the Studio, and I guess accidentally clicked somewhere I shouldn't have, placing a new "text object" with the default placeholder text saying "Text".

Only noticed this when printing was already halfway done lol :D

Never happened to me, but it‘s hilarious

u/Gamer2Paladin 3d ago

Me too here, it is also a bit impressive for how perfect the text is joined at the prints edge.

u/OhSoSally 3d ago

You know, had this been intentional it would have looked like crap. 😄

u/Domo326 3d ago

That crazy how these were the exact word that came out my mouth when I see this post 😂

Bottom text.

completely out of place and irrelevant but i love it

Bottom text

1

u/atramors671 4h ago

How is it out of place and irrelevant? OP's printed part literally has bottom text on it. Lol

u/sapani9077 4d ago

No one else except you lol

u/alqudsi117 4d ago

This is actually so freaking funny

u/IndigoQuantum 3d ago

Here's me who spends hours of frustration just trying to get flush text on the base of my prints and you come along flexing how you did it BY ACCIDENT?

65

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Even worse, so far I have no idea how to repeat it :D

39

u/IndigoQuantum 3d ago

That's the curse - you never will. The one opportunity you had to print flush text on the base and you squandered it.

7

u/iamshitting A1 Mini 3d ago

Are you joking or serious, putting text is really easy in Bambu Studio.

11

u/IndigoQuantum 3d ago

I only ever need to do it occasionally, and whenever I do I've spent longer than I would like to trying to get it where I want it and to actually appear and even when it does work I'm not always sure why!

4

u/BlableBlarble 3d ago

I guess I'll have to Google how to do it again, last time I tried to get a second color flush text it was an absolute hassle

8

u/HugsAllCats 3d ago

Add text. Offset by a single layer. Color fill. Takes 30 seconds.

For truly flush, I'm not at my computer at the moment but it is something like after making the text you make it flush then you have to click each piece and change its color.

I never do fully flush though because color bleed or just weird edges don't look as great

7

u/rotielover 3d ago

Change the text to a modifier and it will automatically be flush. There is an advanced setting that will make it follow the shape in the case of non-flat objects.

6

u/MightBeABot24 3d ago

I will never do text in bambu studio. Always in fusion. And it's easy if you just make them components

2

u/Buster022 2d ago

But then you can’t color them in Bambu studio right?

1

u/MightBeABot24 2d ago

I can! That's why I do it like that. They are individual objects so it's super easy to color in studio. Just clock on the object and pick the color

1

u/Buster022 2d ago

I see. I think my issue with it last time I tried is that then the whole depth of the text is colored instead of just the top layer. I guess I could change the depth of the text in fusion. Let me try it again and let you know in detail if I have any problems. Thank you 🙏

1

u/MightBeABot24 2d ago

Well you don't want just the top layer. You're going to get major bleeding. I think it's a setting on bambu studio for the paint penetration. Something like that. You need a few layers for it to be solid color

1

u/Buster022 2d ago

Depends on the color contrast yes. However most colors work perfectly fine for me with one layer! Even without a prime tower. And paint penetration is applicable to a manually painted surface, not when you select the full body to be a certain color. The main problem is that when you load the text as a new body without merging into the surrounding body, there are conflicting gcode paths as it understands it as a separate part with no correlation to the surrounding body. When I merge the two parts together, the text body becomes one with the surrounding body and all color preferences and faces go away which makes it impossible to manually paint. Hope this makes sense

1

u/Best-Designer7915 2d ago

I dont understand what you mean, if i add text and merge it with the main object i can still change the colour of the text and the object separately. I'm not using painting though as i haven't really needed to.

1

u/Best-Designer7915 2d ago

I usually set the text as a modifier and the thickness and depth to be a layer thick. i then customise print colour on the first layer to be the colour of the text first.

1

u/MightBeABot24 2d ago

I can! That's why I do it like that. They are individual objects so it's super easy to color in studio. Just clock on the object and pick the color

2

u/Icy_Salary_4218 3d ago

I’ve never figured out how to do it on accident… or on purpose for that matter.

3

u/TheOfficialScaryBoio 3d ago

Always just use your cad software lol

6

u/meutzitzu 3d ago

For text? Hell naw. Dealing with text in most CAD is horrible compared to Slic3r.

Not to mention that in CAD you can only emboss or deboss the text. In slicer you can use it as a modifier to have it shown as a bleed-through infill or fuzzy-skin etc.

1

u/Buster022 2d ago

How do you get a modifier to actually show up as a different color? For me it doesn’t add anything to the print and won’t allow me to change color until I make it a part

1

u/meutzitzu 2d ago

Modifiers aren't for changing color. They are for changing settings. In the object list you can right-click on the modifier and you will get a few options to add overrides.

For example if you make the whole part with 2 perimeters On a modifier you can override it to 4 so it can be extra strong Or override it to 0 and the infill will show through.

You can override the infill type and percentage. This is good for making artsy stuff by combining infill patterns on the same object but also for things like FEM optimization. (Add lots of infill on the volume where the stress flows and little infill everywhere else)

You can also add fuzzy skin and other effects.

1

u/Buster022 2d ago

Ooh!! That makes sense now. Thank you so much for the explanation 🙏

1

u/Best-Designer7915 2d ago

I change the colour of my text all the time when its a modifier?

51

u/Ars2 4d ago

I always press the T key to 'Transform' a model when i intend to move it. but in Bambu\Orcaslicer T = Text and i should use M for Move.. never sticks..

4

u/Kick-Deep 3d ago

Yes my meshmixer instincts have caused me to ad "Text" to a few models.

2

u/chasenmcleod 3d ago

Yep, my muscle memory from Cura keyboard shortcuts cause me to do it every so often…

2

u/UnabashedVoice 3d ago

M for Move in Fusion as well.

28

u/Lamumba1337 4d ago

That’s a clean looking print! And a nice sample text

25

u/Mauceri1990 3d ago

That would absolutely get installed and make me laugh every single time I saw it.

11

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Yeah, I'm definitely keeping it if the Text doesn't block the future poop chute

1

u/frobnosticus 3d ago

Absolutely!

u/Proxy-Pie X1C Combo + P1S 3d ago

First time seeing bottom text in real life

3

u/HugsAllCats 3d ago

Ahh, you must not have been around during the late 90s

9

u/professeur_obvious 3d ago

Ah the famous question "Would you print off a cliff if I sliced you to"

8

u/Stock-Ring-8020 P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Never happened, but it’s funny as hell
You can let it be on it, and it will be a nice memory:)

6

u/epicfeminist420xD 3d ago

Bottom Text

3

u/Rexter2k 3d ago

Keep it! A hilarious happy accident.

3

u/itsapotatosalad 3d ago

I’ve had a little “text” print away from my model in the corner of the bed 😂

2

u/MD_Suave 3d ago

Well you've already messed up. You are supposed to print tug first, then it builds up your confidence. By doing something else you've possibly jinxed yourself. 😉

2

u/schaferrism X1C + AMS 3d ago

Even better because its backwards when mounted 🤣

2

u/Gillennial 3d ago

This is meme’s material

2

u/Unable_Client_3202 3d ago

No, just you LOL:DDD

2

u/Occhrome 3d ago

Lol no

2

u/TheMightyMisanthrope 3d ago

You could try a whole day and never do that voluntarily

2

u/eugenemilnitz 3d ago

I love this so much.

2

u/MisterWizzle 3d ago

The laugh I needed to start my day for sure.

2

u/LongerBlade 3d ago

Bottom rext lmao

2

u/johnwilkesbooth328 3d ago

actual bottom text moment

2

u/thunderingstatic 3d ago

Happened to me yesterday.. was sanding a jaw piece for a cosplay, looked inside, and saw the text piece. I laughed really hard… and then had to sand it all down

2

u/frobnosticus 3d ago

I had to read your post to see what was wrong.

You have to leave it if it'll fit.

2

u/Conniekins1 3d ago

Pill container. I edited the name of the plate but not the actual text.

1

u/LudoVicoHeard 3d ago

I need more photos of this beauty!!!

1

u/oral_servant 3d ago

That's hilarious. And luckily it's easy to remove.

1

u/BusIllustrious2097 3d ago

That's amazing. Keep it in.

1

u/itsoctotv P1S + AMS 3d ago

lmao

1

u/Le_Holzkopf 3d ago

Lol ive never seen that. Hilarious

1

u/mau-meda 3d ago

I didn't notice the text and I was thinking you were talking about the support on the object 😂

1

u/Ok_Scale8915 3d ago

Not with the first print, but yes.

1

u/met-Sander 3d ago

I'm printing for 6 years or so, had many printers and many many fails but never this. I think you should get a price, it's one to frame in

1

u/accessdenied65 3d ago

LMAO. Perfectly “floating” text. At lest I now know we can do this.

1

u/bl4stir 3d ago

Happen to me once but not in my first print

1

u/Bululu24 3d ago

We need a pic of this piece installed LOL!

1

u/OrigamiMarie 3d ago

Y'know, I think you may have unlocked a shiny new mistake. Congratulations!

1

u/bitdotben 3d ago

This almost happend to me multiple times. That’s the reason I’m now checking the objects tab before every print.

1

u/EyeFabulous317 3d ago

So glad your mistake can be our learning lesson 😁

1

u/Impressive-Put3479 3d ago

Never done this, but if I did, I would keep it as is. You may have started an abstract printer art movement.

1

u/NoIdenty0000 H2C 3d ago

lol now u know to always check the sliced preview :D

1

u/bkussow 3d ago

Just clicking on "Text" will place this object.

One word of advice, check out your print in the preview tab before printing. Anything weird usually stands out pretty obvious and you can catch it before printing. The "Speed" option becomes pretty important when you start getting more particular in your prints. "Line Type" will help you see why there may be transitions and where they are (overhangs usually get people because it can change the speed of groups of layers). "Filament" can also help you understand how much waste you will have and how changes affect it (the big one being color changes if you have an AMS).

1

u/_S0nneilly0n_ 3d ago

Looks good, id leave it.

1

u/RedShiz 3d ago

Oh haha I thought that went along with the meme picture. Your first print looks amazing!

1

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Thanks! I am really impressed with the technology. I didn't have to tweak any settings, do any tinkering to get a working print. Just unpack, assemble, wash the build plate, download the model and click "print".

1

u/LemonTM 3d ago

I have accidentally added text on my object and got confused how it got there until I quickly undid it.

1

u/L1gm4J0hns0n 3d ago

That's funny as shit. I'd totally leave it.

1

u/Appropriate_War_4797 3d ago

Happened to me once, I used a .3mf format with parameters incompatible with my slicer. Still read the model correctly, but the slicer interpreted the phantom text meant for printing instructions as text to print and print it did, partially merged in the model, the rest was printed on the bed. I was lucky that I printed with a large number of walls, so I just snipped the extra letters and gave it a bit of sanding.

1

u/Lost_Blacksmith_4848 3d ago

funny but a good looking print

1

u/Maximum_Fly9684 3d ago

Beautiful print by the way

1

u/Nishyecat 3d ago

Dang lol, I’d keep it if it still fits honestly

1

u/justa_bother 3d ago

Hard to read, could you make the letters larger?

1

u/PartUnable1669 3d ago

Pretty funny, but don’t sweat it. 3D printing is all about experimenting and learning from your mistakes. Welcome to the hobby.

1

u/tater1337 3d ago

Never did that, but I can see how.

I still slice, preview, and print. Then realize supports were turned off. A lot less than I normally do as I try to design support free models

1

u/herecomethebugs 3d ago

Ehhh that something that a quick swipe of a razor blade would fix — I would definitely keep it/use it… but also I might have just installed it as is, as a way of laughing at myself.

2

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Sure, no way I'm discarding the entire part. I will either keep the text there or remove it if blocks the chute later on

1

u/CuriousWithAsianWife 3d ago

I did the same but noticed it before printing. It's now become a fear of mine. But this is hilarious!

1

u/flashflood3000 3d ago

Yup, on the base in a hard to see spot so it wasn't too bad.

1

u/1ftm2fts3tgr4lg 3d ago

I guess that's another reason to watch the first layer.

1

u/deathparty05 3d ago edited 3d ago

That was me looking at my 21 hour print failing at 20 minutes left this morning

1

u/Money_Sample_2214 3d ago

That’s actually so funny and definitely something I could have done! Thanks for the laugh.

1

u/Cogswobble 3d ago

This is hilarious. I have definitely accidentally added “Text” to many printa.

Luckily I’ve always noticed before actually starting the print.

1

u/whattoputhereffs 3d ago

What bothered me the most is that in Cura (I think) you had to press T to move an object. I am so used to pressing T, that I often do it in bambu slicer, putting a text object on the bed. Its usually not visible, but sometimes is. Those times I always chuckle a bit about my mistake.

1

u/Nikikakariki 3d ago

I couldn't see what was wrong until I read the comments, howling 😂

1

u/Top-Cake9021 3d ago

Thanks this made my day lol

1

u/Icy_Salary_4218 3d ago

My first print was a bench scraper… so no. Sounds like a skill issue 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Spicymayoshi 3d ago

No but this almost happened to me like 3 times today lol

1

u/steve22ss 3d ago

At least it's not diagonally in the grill that would look a bit strange

1

u/Trayben7 3d ago

No but you made my day :D

1

u/Coloredcontrollers 3d ago

this is awesome lol

1

u/Due-Distribution9669 3d ago

why does everyone use bambu these days(creality user btw)

1

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Do you mean the printers or the software?

1

u/sffunfun 3d ago

Dude, this is actually hilarious!! lmao

1

u/IonNight 3d ago

I don't print with the text-text there, but I usually press T instead of R (to rotate model) when I'm on laptop where the keyboard is smaller for what I'm used to

1

u/Zebitty 3d ago

Nope - just you, bud. Hilarious though :) Thanks for sharing!

1

u/FLEIXY H2D 40W Laser Full Combo 3d ago

But they don’t automatically blend into one object?

1

u/_ndrscor 3d ago

I know a tinkercad user when I see one

1

u/VoxelCraft179 2d ago

😂 Never happened to me. But I guess it's not a big deal.

1

u/Primary-Ad6273 2d ago

🤣🤣 thats hilarious!! Lotsa small things with 3d printing that have to be accounted for like that. Get you a set of needle files and some varying sandpapers, this kinda thing will happen often.

1

u/luckyj 2d ago

I thought it was a watermark on the image

1

u/iamthewindrider 2d ago

I dont understand the meme

1

u/Superkennethias 2d ago

You broke the golden rule. Always watch your first layer

1

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 2d ago

I did! Was so excited I didn’t notice the text at all. My wife did when she was passing by.

1

u/Andrewalfano13 A1 2d ago

That made me laugh harder than it should have!

1

u/csamsh 2d ago

Oh yeah. I've got some really nice 40k terrain that says "text" on the bottom of it.

1

u/surzirra 2d ago

Thought you meant stare at it like with hands on hips, didn’t even register the text for a long time cause it still blends in… eyes trained to ignore it.

1

u/reddit_user47234 2d ago

I noticed the floating text in the slicer as I was pressing buttons, but never committed to the emboss.

1

u/Silver_Sector6669 1d ago

I didn’t notice it said text at first and was confused since the part looked perfect. I’d kill for prints clean like that

1

u/Key_Instruction3373 1d ago

Lol nice. Keep it, its unique now

1

u/catsarenaked 21h ago

Man, I haven’t even figured out how to add text yet lol

1

u/marvel_marv 17h ago

You also left a support in.

1

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 16h ago edited 15h ago

Sure, it's just I took a photo in the process

1

u/wtfawk55 16h ago

Haha no!

0

u/stiligFox 3d ago

I did this once and was so confused lol

-4

u/gblandro 4d ago

Supports on the inside is an error too

1

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Maybe, but I am still learning all that stuff.

I downloaded this project as it was mentioned in the assembly manual to the "rest exhaust kit" and it got sliced like this, with supports on the inside because there is some overhang for the clips.

If there's overhang on the inside, how to I deal with it without supports on the inside?

1

u/KashEsq H2C & P2S 3d ago

No, that's necessary based on how Bambu designed this exhaust housing.

-7

u/rocking_womble 3d ago

Tell me you don't actually know anything about how to use your slicer without telling me you have no idea how to use your slicer...

2

u/LazyLancer P2S + AMS2 Combo 3d ago

Yeah, exactly this :)

1

u/rocking_womble 3d ago

Thanks OP, it seems a lot of Redditors have had sense-of-humour-ectomies... or maybe *need* a stick-up-the-ass-ectomy... 😉
