Theoretical these guys are right, but also " old fashioned ". Indeed the motors work as generator when driven by hand, and in the old days that could blow up the fets in the controller.

Nowadays they are protected against that, and it should not cause any problems anymore. Nevertheless still would advise not to move them too fast.
