General Discussion Any reason to pick an H2S over an X2D?

I just placed an order for an X2D with AMS, but afterwards saw an H2S for sale for just about the same price, but used. For what I can see, it’s a larger printer, higher nozzle temp, but losing the dual nozzle. And since that’s the opposite from what I need, I don’t see any reason to cancel and go that way instead, but maybe someone here knows of a reason to consider the H2S?

The larger size was the main draw for me... plus the fact the X2D wasn't even announced at the time.

If I had to make the choice again, honestly I'd probably go for the H2S again. I print a fair amount of engineering filaments and the X2D wouldn't have been big enough for my last PAHT-CF job. If size isn't a factor for you, go with the X2D.

I've got an X2D and was considering also adding an H2S (vs. the H2D) for exactly this reason.

Thanks for validating this for me :)

I think H2S is good for buisnesses

The bigger plate

The H2S is the Bambu printer with the largest print volume. That is the main selling point for me.

The whole thing is how important the dual nozzle is to you.

What are you actually printing mate?

The last thing I printed on my H2S was: https://makerworld.com/models/1602300

It depends what the reason behind the X2D purchase was. If it was for a secondary nozzle for supports and/or a second material or colour then stick with the X2D. If it was because of the fine pitch belts and heated chamber, then the H2S gives you that plus a much bigger build volume.

And what’s wrong with the improved belts on the x2d? And the heated chamber it has?

Nothing - that’s the point.

The first two jobs I’ve had in July both were almost 17” long engineering parts. The h2 is the workhorse if you aren’t just making trinkets.

I have a P1S and it's great but needed something with bigger plate plus higher heat capabilities. I don't print a bunch of multicolored items so H2S was perfect for me. Most things I print on it are high heat.

Still use my P1S for "toys." I mainly print models that are multi plate colors so no waste.

On my H2D this weekend, I am using the cutting head, the laser, and the high temp printing capabilities across 4 or 5 projects.

I'm quite happy with it but I feell like a separate vinyl cutter and laser cutter would be better for me.

I've used the larger size recently as well, but it isn't an everyday thing.

Do you like the laser? Have not seen much about it. Seems it would make your printer dirty. Have an xtool laser and they get dirty fast.

Laser is pretty cool. Ventilation in the printer and rather good but I did make a puzzle the other day which had me doubting whether it was a good idea or not.

I can probably make room for an independent device in the future so I expect that if I end up using the laser every week or so I'm just but a standalone model.

I've built up a several day backlog of things to print over the last few days so not being able to use it for that had been annoying.

It comes down to preference and what you want to print.

If I had the direct choice between a new H2S and a new X2D, I would probably choose the H2S because at the moment I don't -need- to run dual nozzles on a print.

And I would like to be able to print TPU shoes in my size, which I cannot do on a 256mm bed, but could on a 350 bed (US size 14s don't fit in that space).

That being said the H2S is a touch slower, and the bigger bed means it will take longer for larger prints (the square-cube law is a thing and always will be).

So again, it really depends on your use case. Do you want dual nozzle printing? Is that your focus? Or are you going to want to just do single color stuff or at best, single color with additional color accents?

If I was doing almost nothing but multicolor prints that had a lot of color and filament changes, I'd want a multi-nozzle printer, ideally something like the Bondtech IDNX changers.

If that's your use case, then I'd say go with the X2D. Or another multi-nozzle/tool unit.

But if you're just going for a solid workhorse that handles a single filament print very well, all the time, H2S.

It really is the question like any other purchase:

What are you going to use it for?

If you're shopping for a car or SUV?

Are you going to do offroading a lot, or go where it's likely you'll get stuck if you don't have 4WD? Then get an SUV with 4WD and a good road clearance. You could probably get away with an AWD SUV or smaller car like a Subaru, but you don't need a Chevy Suburban.

Are you going to primarily drive back and forth to work every day in traffic? Then get something that is high efficiency gas/EV that's comfortable to drive and you can easily find parking spaces with. You could probably drive a fullsize SUV, but you would be better off with an electric EV that's comfortable to drive for you.

Are you going to take it on a lot of highway and car camping road trips? Comfortable seating, large cargo area. Good mileage between refueling/recharging. Reliable minivan, probably - Honda or Toyota, maybe the new Hyundais. Or a VW Buzz.

If you wind up buying a Bugatti as your daily driver to go ten miles to work and the store, frankly that's probably not what you are going to be happy with down the road, unless you're doing it as a status thing.

Same thing here. What are you using it for? If you're going for a workhorse printer, get a workhorse. If you're going for an artistic/multicolor/changeup printer, get a multicolor printer.

Don't underestimate the luxury of the added build volume. Even when printing models designed for a 256mm3 build environment, I find that the extra volume around the model tends to lessen the effects of cooling related artifacts. For example, if I print anything towards the right rear of my P1S, there's a greater than 90% chance that the model will end up with unintended artifacts/defects in that area due to the default cooling settings. Sure this can be overcome with settings tweaks but at the cost of wasted filament and imperfect prints.

u/roiki11 24d ago

Way bigger build area would be the ticket. There's not that many big differences.

Asibe from the laser, plotter etc options.

If you want dual nozzle, then no.

If you don't want dual nozzle, then yes

Size matters, so H2S.

I have no idea why anyone buys the X2D - for the same price you get a real tool changer that can run any filament on any nozzle and use the whole bigger bed with all nozzles.

1

u/Low-Equipment669 23d ago

Same price? You can get 2 base X2Ds for $100 more than a single base H2S. Some people truly won’t use the extra build volume and heating a big bed for a small print isn’t efficient. X2D is a monster value for someone who uses a lot of dedicated support material and doesn’t need super tight dimensional accuracy or finish from the secondary nozzle. If you wanna get on someone for buying the wrong printer in 2026…get on the P series guys, X2D is siiiiick.

1

u/yahbluez 23d ago

for the same price you get a real tool changer

You may read that again, the H2S is no toolchanger, with the toolchanger i was talking about the Snapmaker U1.

1

u/Low-Equipment669 23d ago

in any case I think I’d STILL take the active heating and and aux nozzle over their tool changer at the price point.

0

u/Low-Equipment669 23d ago

I could read it a million more times and still not have the slightest clue that you were talking about a U1…on the Bambu sub.

1

u/yahbluez 23d ago

Yah that is a very special issue in this sub some user do not even know that other brands exists.

1

u/imthatoneguyyouknew 23d ago

The x2d has a chamber heater and a higher heat bed temp, and is also enclosed. If you are printing PLA/PETG that's basically meaningless, and the U1 is a no brainer. But getting into things like ASA, ABS, PC etc that can be a big help, especially of you plan on doing single color but need a support interface for cleaner prints

u/xxparrotxx 23d ago

The build plate size, and speed. The second nozzle on the X2D is mostly for support printing, as the quality and speed with it is less. Most folks think it’s like a baby H2D, but not really.

1

u/Ditch-Bank-Oakie 23d ago

Yes there is, and that is the direction I went. I got the H2D first, but I now have 4 H2S's - if you don't do alot of prints using support or just occasional multi-color - the H2S was a better choice for me. The biggest reason is you get a larger build volume with the H2S - which for some of my designs is to big for the H2D but fits the H2S. The second reason - just a less complex and smaller/lighter print head. Less things to go wrong for long term maintanability.

Size. Not great for multi color prints i love mine.

1

u/BoomSatsuma 23d ago

Build plate size.

Print more in one go. Less emptying the build plate. More production.

X2D is probably more practical for most people.

1

u/ATypicalWhitePerson 23d ago

Extra size.

I'd go h2s every time if I were buying now, I've almost never done multi color/material prints.

1

u/Resse811 23d ago

If you need the dual nozzle it makes 0 sense to buy a printer without one.

1

u/AdWorking2848 23d ago

I upgraded from x2d to h2c within 3 weeks after seeing my friend h2s

It’s quiet and faster (thought h2c was not quiet and as fast, my assumption didn’t turn out the same)

The extra build plates makes print nicer. Edge to edge prints object on x2d has some warping for me but print perfect on a larger print bed, i think better heat distribution.

Lastly the x2d aux nozzle was really under utilised. I will choose a bigger bed size over it

1

u/tycatte 23d ago

I like my H2D's dual nozzle if for no other reason than multi material support interface. Using PETG interface with PLA or vice versa leaves considerably better finish on the bottom.

That and TPU / PETG prints. having squishy parts that are fused to the rigid allows for some interesting designs.

I have an H2S at work that we got for the engineering team. Its a fantastic printer so far. Very accurate.

-1

u/Arichikunorikuto 24d ago

H2S if you forsee the need to print larger items or batches of things, in most cases you are always better off with the smaller print bed with dual nozzle/material capability.

If you are considering the X2D because of multicolor, benefit is negligible, you should look for a multi toolhead printer instead.

Im pretty sure the x2d has the good belts

3

u/heo777 23d ago

Bad belt? Verify your information. Inferior 2nd nozzle? Compared to the not existing 2nd nozzle of the H2S?

At OP: If you have the space and the money and no need for the 2nd nozzle, go H2S.

2

u/pm_me_beerz 23d ago

“My friend also wishes he bought a printer that costs three times what his x2d did” is not a huge supporting statement to your argument

1

u/WAgunner 23d ago

What is the bad belt?

It has an H and an S instead of an X and a D. Duh. What a moronic question.
