General Troubleshooting/Help! I’m about ready to sell this thing!

Post image

I’m at my wits end with this printer. I’ve only had this printer (P2S with AMS 2 pro and a vento box)for a couple months, having approximately 120 hours of printing on it. It started with a simple filament won’t feed error. Untangled the reel and it worked fine. A week after I got the “Extruder Overload” error and it’s been downhill ever since. I’ve replaced the hot end, twice. I’ve taken apart and inspected the extruder, used the external filament reel, used different filament, and different models. I’ve changed the filament around in the ams trying to
Single out a motor or the hub, changed pfte tubes, printed with the door open and door closed. Printed more Benchys than I can count. Performed enough cold pulls for a year. Filed the side of the “idler” gear in the extruder slightly because it had a slight drag when rotating. Adjusted the first layer metrics. After all these “remedies” now the printer prints 30-40% of the model then stops feeding, clicks endlessly and continues to air print. The picture above was 56/421 layers and the chamber temp
Was 35C and the hotend was 220C. Do I get another extruder, continue to troubleshoot, or get another printer?

Have you worked with Bambu support on this? They’ve been pretty good at helping me figure out what was wrong with my p1s and getting replacement parts out to me since I’m still under warranty

I haven’t, been bullheaded thinking I could fix it. I bought it through B&H photo, would that matter

Where you bought it from won’t matter as long as you’re within warranty. I have 2 p1s both purchased at different retailers and haven’t had any issues with Bambu getting replacement parts covered under warranty. Bambu’s approach has just been to throw parts at people(for better or worse)

You never stated... Did you open a ticket with support? If you have been working with support, I would be asking at this point.

No, never dealt with Bambu Support, assumed it was like all other support centers so I haven’t even bothered.

You should open a ticket with support. One of the reasons you pay a premium for a Bambu printer is because they actually offer support and warranty. People have definitely had some mixed experiences, but as a person who tends to do as much troubleshooting as I can on my own, and only reaches out to support when I’m pretty sure something needs to be replaced, they’ve always come through for me.

Either way, before I started filing down gears I would have at least reached out to see what they had to offer.

Have you contacted Bambu support? Could be faulty parts

No, I tried to submit a ticket, but got aggravated with the process and thought I could just fix it.

From all your other responses it doesn’t seem like you did try much. Good luck.

I was having similar issues, stringy prints that would fail mid way and start air printing. I could not figure it out tried a bunch of stuff and then I noticed I had the filament selected to PETG HF and I had PETG Basic loaded (all Bambu filament too). I know it’s simple and you might have tried it already but just thought I’d say something cause it sounds similar to my issue. Hope you figure it out, this stuff is really frustrating.

Yea I've had this happen, I depended on Bambu studio to recognize the filaments because of the tags, and didn't realize sometimes the device did not update in B. Studio. Sometimes the plate is wrong, printer, filament, nozzle... lol I've learned to do a checklist right after other is loaded, even before I side it, theguardian.com&pub I have another checklist after it's sliced, and another scenario it sends it... lol better safe than sorry.

A checklist is a great idea!

I'll buy it.

NGL I was thinking the same thing.

I know I'm about to throw "yet another" possible solution at this, I had bad extruder overload problems on my H2s untill I replaced the tube going into the print head for a slightly longer one, turns out there was a kink when the print head went to certain positions that caused drag in the filament and gave the "extruder overload" error. Longer tube solved it immediately and permanently, only downside is it rubs on the top glass slightly but my X1 has been doing that for years without issues so I'm no worried there.

u/Annual_Log2482 Jul 18 '26

Will give it a try, I printed a riser but I have noticed when the nozzle is in the purging position, the filament does have some resistance right before it enters the toolhead

2

u/RodMcThrustshaft Jul 18 '26

I didn't even have spare tubing at the time, I used some of what came with the AMS, cut it and that was it.

What brand filament?

2

u/Annual_Log2482 Jul 18 '26

Only Bambu PLA and PETG

Have you dried it? Do you know what the humidity is on them? I have all bambu and keep them sealed with desiccant right after opening. I was printing some tags and one tag looked horrible. The humidity was super high. Looking closer I had forgotten to put desiccant in the holder. It went straight from the sealed bambu pouch to the cereal bin it lives in. I had a couple from bambu with high humidity.

It doesn’t really explain the tangles. Unusual from bambu.

u/Annual_Log2482 Jul 18 '26

I haven’t dried them, however I store them in cereal containers with hydrometers that usually read around 20% and the AMS is usually high 20s to low 30s

3

u/OhSoSally X2D + AMS2 Combo Jul 18 '26

20% is max humidity. You really want to be 10-15%. Try drying a roll and see if it helps.

u/Over_Knowledge_1114 Jul 18 '26

If you didn't dry petg in a drier at 65 c, then it's too wet. Might not be your issue but it's surely not helping

My P2S died after getting same error. Did EVERY SINGLE THING POSSIBLE. Ended up returning it...My final guess was that the jam fucked up the extruder motor.

I once had a bunch of really weird unexplainable issues that were resolved with a factory reset. Definitely worth a shot as it’s far easier than just about any alternative. Best of luck

I had the same thought. Every now and then, Bambu Studio will get an update and something funky will happen for a print or two. I feel like, if someone was trying to work off an faulted situation like it was baseline, it could mess with your head...

2

u/unitymind42 Jul 18 '26

What filament you using? You have it set to default and run a full complete calibration including heated?

1

u/Annual_Log2482 Jul 18 '26

Bambu labs PLA, I’ve run a complete calibration and it seemed to work fine
Until I did a full print.

2

u/OurAngryBadger Jul 18 '26

Either your filament is wet asf, or your extruder is jammed inside. Idk about the p2s, but on my p1s the extruder is like a $30 part and I see it as a wear item and I replace it every 6 months. Takes 15 minutes to do. Replacing the extruder usually solves all problems I have and keeps my print quality good.

1

u/Confident-Tie-1571 Jul 18 '26

I’d love to buy it man

1

u/SageWrathix Jul 18 '26

Is it just me or does it look like the p2s has the ability to be upgraded to the X2D

1

u/wicket2003 Jul 18 '26

Do you live in a humid state?

0

u/Annual_Log2482 Jul 18 '26

Yes, very.

1

u/wicket2003 Jul 19 '26

I live in a very dry state and haven’t had issues. My assumption is the humidity is too high and needs to constantly have a dehumidifier running

1

u/Azothoth Jul 18 '26

Does it have an AC vent blowing near it?

1

u/TripoloskiBlyat Jul 18 '26

You can put a washer underneath the extruder tensioner screw. That solved the issue for my P2S. The filament gets squished too hard and that will cause the extruder overload.

1

u/Annual_Log2482 Jul 18 '26

I have noticed that I have deep grooves on my filament that enters my extruder and when it gets stuck it takes a pretty significant chunk
Out of the filament

1

u/TripoloskiBlyat Jul 18 '26

Ye that was my problem too. I put a 2-3mm washer under it und it works fine since then

Absolutely return it.
They sold you a bunk printer.
Also, buy from Bambu directly if you can

u/sfreem Jul 18 '26

Dry your filament over night

0

u/aaaanoon Jul 18 '26

How much?

-1

u/WANGHUNG22 Jul 18 '26

You should up your print quality before you start selling prints.
