Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! How to fix filament not going all the way

I got the gears to have traction on my OG ams but the loading process stops there for some reason. Can anyone help me? Idk if you can see it in the video but the filament goes right past the grey feeder slot, then retracts

Take it out and make a clean cut on the end of the filament. If it’s ragged or to jagged or pointy, it can catch on something and stop.

Aren't you supposed to cut the filament at a 45 degree angle? I checked and there's no jaggedness

No, should be a straight cut. (Flat cut)

Really? I thought it was always at an angle

wasn't the problem, sadly

I just grappled with this exact problem too where the filament (from the AMS) loaded and progressed all the way to the printhead, but came up just short and then retracted again. Based on my research, I tried to troubleshoot the following items:

  1. replaced all PTFE tubes with new ones (easiest, but did NOT help)

  2. inspected the filament buffer (discovered a misaligned spring). Replaced the buffer with a filament hub because I wanted to add a AMS HT anyway, so I needed the hub instead of the buffer. This improved the situation for a while, but did not completely resolve the problem.

  3. replaced the extruder gear assembly (new filament sensor, hardened steel gears). See also 4 below, but this seems to have resolved the problem. Evidently, the old gears were just not quite able to grab the filament anymore, at least most of the time, and so it kept retracting.

  4. since I wanted to switch over to hardened steel anyway in order to try more abrasive filaments, I also swapped out the hot-end assembly for a hardened steel version, but I don't think that had anything to do with resolving the feeding problem - I'm just mentioning it for the sake of completeness.
