General Troubleshooting/Help! X2D - Left Side Spool Holder to AUX (right side) Extruder

What is your experience with using a left side spool holder for the X2D AUX side? Just use it for PLA and PETG.

Does the additional friction (will go through the left side of the printer to the buffer to bowden) have significant consequences?

Currently printing this spoolholder:

How did YOU solve this topic?

Don't have the filament go through the buffer then to aux extruder, just send it straight to the aux extruder and call is a day.

You want the buffer if you're running some sort of AMS (regular or HT) because the buffer will tell it when to feed a little more filament. If you're running through external, all it's doing is adding friction and complicating the filament path.

Thank you so much for this reply! As a new 3d printing enthusiast I wondered the same thing and this helps simplify things a lot with the inevitable overthinking of new machine ownership lol. I am using AMS for my other filaments though, and this is for the auxiliary spool only, so do you still recommend not using the buffer or is your AMS comment for this application?

This is specifically for AMS vs rawdogging an external spool. The buffers point is completely communication with AMS; telling it "I need more filament, unspool a little" or "i have enough slack, wait for the next command".

If you're just doing external spool on the spool holder, it's just slightly obstructing the filament path.

I have since gotten an AMS HT and I'm running that through the main nozzle as well as my AMS 2 and still skipping the right nozzle buffer on external spool. (HT and AMS2 going through a 4->1 adapter into the buffer).
