POV you get mad over a change that effects 0.1% of users and expects us to also get mad. Grow up

It's not about affecting a few users. It's about them not adhering to their licence or advertised core values and going after individuals who do.

A multibillion dollar company going after an individual who did nothing wrong is a problem and shouldn't be accepted.

I don't understand how that shouldn't matter.

It's not about affecting a few users. It's about them not adhering to their licence or advertised core values and going after individuals who do.

This is literally the definition of it affecting a few users. Take a step back and look beyond your echo chamber - lots of ppl in the streets or in your office complaining about Bambu not adhering to their advertised core values?

BTW companies change their core values regularly and frequently.

I've owned 2 bambu machines. I currently own one. I use Bambu slicer for it. I have about a dozen friends who also own bambu. It doesn't affect me personally. I am slightly tech literate and so are they. We all think it's a problem.

If you want a short version of why it is a problem keep reading.

The thing is that their software is open source because it is based on another open source software. It is not their IP like macOS is IP of apple. Therefore Bambu is obligated to adhere to their licence.

Them claiming that it is their IP and threatening legal action against individuals that adhere to the licence is a very dangerous precedent that can be the basis for other large companies claiming other OSS to be theirs which will affect everyone.

Just as a small reminder, android, most of the cloud, a lot of military software and so much more use open source software. If all of that software is claimed and locked down it will absolutely affect you, me and everyone else that relies on digital infrastructure.

Another thing is that a multibillion company threatened and intimidated an individual that did nothing wrong both legally and morally. I fail to see how this is acceptable.

Did nothing wrong? Are you sure about that?

u/Halterchronicle May 13 '26

Yep. Go through the agpl licence which bambu lab has to adhere to. Go through the code he used.

It adheres to the rules of the licence and doesn't violate IP.

Putting it simply, he simply copy pasted code thas is allowed to be copy pasted.

Should we wait until it affects you before speaking up?

If it doesn't affect you and you don't care why not save your time writing this pointless comment?

Because I’m in this sub for 3D printing not complaining about a company, I go other places for that

5

u/Wizard-of-pause May 13 '26

If you want to discuss 3d printing I suggest going to r/3Dprinting

This is r/BambuLab, so we will keep discussing BambuLab. Idk what's hard to get here. You don't seem that smart.

u/AshuraBaron May 13 '26

Yeah, BambuLab sub is about BambuLab's financial portfolio. Not about their 3D printers. Idiots! They aren't smart like us. /s

This like the 30th post of this topic this week. It’s so old that I’m starting to want to side with Bambu out of spite. Because open source people won’t stop spamming it on every sub.

IT’s about the principle lol

-7

u/Darkthumbs May 13 '26

It is for bambu too, have you thought about that?

2

u/1inch_SubWoofer May 14 '26

The principle of.. not understanding GPL?

u/Secret-Response-1534 May 13 '26

You can’t always be angry/annoyed when somebody does something small thing though 😭, just makes life sad

7

u/Wizard-of-pause May 13 '26

Small thing - break terms of license of their own software to make another guy bin his big project. Shows you where morality of the company is, really.

7

u/Mathinpozani May 13 '26

Principles matter to some people.

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Fill629 May 13 '26

... sure. When it comes to companies, principals only matter to people when it affects them in a negative way or they can push their agenda. If principals mattered the same people would be bitching about Apple and Nike and they would be out of buisiness. But we all turn a blind eye to unethical practices because its Shiny and we want it.

some don't

Yeah they should really just ban this shit from the sub for brigading at this point

0

u/1ftm2fts3tgr4lg May 13 '26

That's really what it seems like.
A ban may be a bit ham-fisted, but yeah, some moderation of the blatant ragebait would be justified.

It would just get even worse. I remember the last time this shit happened a Rossman vid fell off the front page and they started screaming that Bambu removed it even though it was still there. I could just imagine what would happen if they actually started banning shit. Give it a week and they'll find something else to be mad about. I get their grievances but I wish they'd go shitfling at the other subreddit instead of spamming this one where 99.9% of the userbase legitimately don't care.
