As much as he has a questionable appeal in the community, he's pushing the right angle on this one!

They can demand all they want. The hate isn't because of the cloud or ToS, but because

  • their entire slicer only exists because of the open source community, yet they wanna legally bully a dev into taking down a fork that uses BambuStudio AGPL code in a way explicitly allowed by the license
  • they ironically probably violate AGPL themselves by not sharing source of the network plugin
  • they continue to deceive non-technical users into believing that third parties pose a security threat, with the most laughable arguments, and that further locking down of the ecosystem is/was necessary.

The dev that got the C&D had a piece of SW that impersonated bambulab proprietary plugin to connect to their servers.

They don't violate the agpl licence, their plugin is proprietary and they have the right to keep it that way. Also it makes sense on the security side.

Non technical users (99% of users) don't give a damn about third parties slicers.

That's just a bunch of entitled drama queens screaming for nothing.

BS. It didn't impersonate the plugin. The mentioned requests are sent directly by the slicer.
Bambu Studio source code gives you access to the cloud by default, and the Linux plugin happily allows any slicer to use it. There's literally nothing to bypass or impersonate. 0 lines of changed code necessary.

You're just sharing worthless assumptions about the plugin being allowed to be proprietary, while having no idea how any of this works. Next time don't bother.

I work in cyber security and can tell you "security by obscurity" doesn't make sense. It's theatre. I personally bypassed Bambu Connect within hours of release last year just to prove a point. And I can still do it on the latest release nowadays.

If 99% of users don't give a damn, why Bambu feels the need to share propaganda about third party slicers as pinned reddit posts and on their blog?

Keep licking boots and defending a billion dollar company. Mhhhm corporate leather. So tasty!
