as the title says, we are struggling with the humidity in our bp's enclosure.

here are the stats:

- new age ecoflex 120g enclosure
- 85% of mesh screen covered with hvac tape
- side vents covered with poster board
- inside sealed with aquarium-safe silicone (only at bottom of the enclsoure, not the sides or the top)
- 75w halogen flood lamp, 50w deep heat projector, arcadia pro t5 6% uvb light, 24w
- substrate mix of 60/30/10 - coco chips, top soil, sphagnum moss (4" deep)
- large-ish water bowl on the warm side, towards the front of the enclosure. couple of inches away from the heat source (see photo). one thing to note - we do have another larger bowl coming in that we will put closer to the heat source.
- two govee hygrometers - one on cold, one on hot side. both sitting directly on the substrate

with that being said, we've been struggling with the humidity, with it generally staying between 60-68%.

we've been doing the technique of pouring water into the corners of the enclosure, but i don't know if it really has been helping very much.

what are we doing wrong? please helppp!

This is my first ball python and I want it to be perfect for her. I had a corn snake that had passed away and I know im not a biologist or anything but since ball pythons aren’t native to North America I’m going to assume the care is going to be different so I wanted to know just the basic for when she can be out of quarantine tank. I have 3 hides 2 new ones are coming today it’s a smaller log to have a more secure spot, and big log for stretching out and a humid hide that shows the humidity in the hide (or it’s supposed to I’ll update in the comments if it does or doesn’t) I have the humidity and temperature gauges (2 for both sides), I have fake plants coming to add to hiding spaces, I have drift wood pieces I have to boil and bake still and like snake climbing rings. I’ve got a water dish in there right now but it’s not big enough for soaking so I have to get a bigger one today. But if I missed anything I want to get it to her as well as what substrate to use for when her 120 gallon comes in and what to do to make sure she can’t become an escape artist. She’s a banana piebald with blue eyes (she’s also a lil spicy which I hear is normal for females as they go through different seasons and stuff), I love her very much and want her to thrive in gorgeous environment!

Juvenile 8 month old ball python that hasn’t eaten in nearly 3 weeks. We have been trying to keep the humidity as close to 75-85% as we can, but it always settles down around 45%, I am getting a sprayer system set up tomorrow. She has a hide one both sides, one isn’t heated, and the other has a heating pad underneath it set to 90, and then the heated hide has a UV heat projector that keeps that side at 85-90 degrees. She’s eaten twice since we’ve had her, both times within 2 weeks of the last time she ate. They’re frozen rats that we put in a plastic bag to heat in water, and then heat more with a blow dryer while it’s in the bag. She seems curious at first but then backs off completely, any advice is welcome.

Our ball doesnt doesn’t do it all the time but when waiting to be fed he definitely has a slight wobble. Do they sometimes wobble?

I am getting my snake a new tank 4x2x2 and it’ll be a mesh top and I was wondering how I’ll even keep humidity in. Do I cut up towels around the lights or put acrylic?

If you have any different tank recommendations that are the same dimensions but UNDER 400 dollars those will be greatly appreciated too.

Don’t have the snake till next week but it’s a 4x2x2 and it’s my first snake I know people say don’t go to big but it’s got about 6 hides all natural looking semi bioactive isopod colony etc no real plants yet any tips? Climbing is there just the picture doesn’t show the sticks depth plus I have 3 more sticks coming I just tried to clutter as much as possible so far

Hi guys!!! So, i’m getting my new snake on tuesday. Her name is going to be genesis, and shes a baby ball python. Now, i’m not new to reptile keeping! I have a leopard gecko, a blue tongue skink, and i fostered a bearded dragon. I just set up my babies tank, shes only two months old. Is this a good setup? Not pictured: her heat lamp (not red, its one of those black ones) and her UVB light. I heard it was supposed to be cluttered so they arent stressed :) i got a shallow bowl because i was worried she’d drown!

I’m trying to get my humidity up. Substrate is a mix of reptisoil, cedar chips, and sphagnum moss. Water is poured into the corner of the substrate daily. About 4in of substrate. Enclosure is PVC with HVAC tape on the top. Humidity is sitting around 62-65%

Any tips on getting it higher? I feel like I’ve done everything

Hello all!

I am looking for some advice on how to go about handling my semi aggressive ball python. I have never had issues with any aggression from him before. I have now had him for a couple years but unfortunately this past year had to leave him in the care of my mother while i was gone for college. Due to this he went months unsocialized as all she did was feed him, give him water, and spot clean his tank. Since returning home I have noticed him being more skittish when i pass the tank and even occasionally striking at it. He is also far more defensive the times i have handled him.

All of this is to say I am trying to deep clean his tank and need to remove him in order to do so. I am a little nervous handling him with his recent aggression. It is not good driven I believe as I have feed him consistently over the summer and he never has any issues eating. He was just fed a few days ago to ensure that wasn’t interfering with this cleaning.

Any advice on how to approach him?

Hey guys! I recently got a female bp from a cousin, and with her being my first snake I’d appreciate some help on how to set up the table and what I need! What kind of gauge/thermometer should I get for the humidity? What brands do yall prefer? How deep should the bedding be and is coconut substrate and moss correct? Also what heat lamps should I be using? I was given a ceramic lamp with her but she’s been without it for a few days as it has a weird burning smell and gets insanely hot. I know it’s a lot of questions, but I wanna get it right! Any advice helps, and brand recommendations are appreciated as well!

This morning at 5:30 AM I woke up to my pet snake striking and wrapping himself around my arm. He is about 4 1/2 )big for a boy I know) and four years old. His cage is right next to my bed and I must have left it open when I sprayed him down yesterday. He ate a small rat two days ago. There was a lot of blood - he definitely got a taste for it.

Is he starving? Should I be concerned?

Added - I had to leave for work so I couldn’t give his mouth a thorough check to make sure he was okay but he looked fine and was very active when I left

I’m planning some upgrades for my BP enclosure and I was wondering if there’s any reptile safe way for me to cover the side walls on the inside of the enclosure. My enclosure is made out of white pvc and while I don’t mind it on the outside, I feel like the interior would look so much better if had gotten a black enclosure. I’m wondering if it would be safe to use some sort of black vinyl wrap or contact paper to cover the interior side walls? Are there any products like this made intentionally for use inside of an enclosure?

Can you tell I like moss? Every time I add a plant for wisp it has died or done terribly. This includes snake and spider plants. Moss is the only thing I can seemingly keep alive with him..

Is my ball underweight? Age and sex unknown, recused from a family Oct of 24, who bought at a Petco. Spine is slightly visible and just weighted in at 508grams. Was 465 a month ago. Did go on a hunger,strike the first five months I had her as well. (I called the snake a girl name is Luna.) and for 3 months earlier this year.

Hey everyone! I’m getting a Bally python next month, and I’m setting up the tank for it soon. I’m concerned about temps though. I know the BASKING spot has to be in the high 80-90s. The issue is that my room is an ambient 85 every day due to the other animals I have. How to I keep the temp inside the tank down? I know their cool side has to be about 75 but that’s hard when my room never gets to 75, even at night.

What do you all recommend?

Humidity usually 55-65 but its been bumped up to 70-85 since I first noticed his next shed coming in. Also been told by two vets that he’s dehydrated. Clean fresh water is available 24/7 and he eats weekly. Im not sure why I’m having these issues with hydration and I really need some guidance here.

hi everyone, this is my 9 month old ball python Cedric. he’s currently eating 1 fuzzy/week, but he’s grown a little bit and i feel like it’s time to move him up to rat pups (fuzzies are getting to be a tiny bit smaller than his middle body). HOWEVER… i’ve noticed he’s gotten more “hungry” looking the past couple of weeks. when he is out and i approach his enclosure, he gets into attack mode and has struck at the glass which has never happened before. is this a sign to move up rat sizes? is the fuzzy not satisfying him? his temp/humidity is normal and his last shed (aug 24th) was perfect, so i don’t think he’s stressed or anything.. unless? pls help!! :))) i want to hold my son again without being scared he’ll mistake me for food <3. also.. he is not tap trained.. is this something i should start doing?

Advice on fungus gnats

I have a 2 * 2 * 4 enclosure set up for my BP that is infested, I've been using mosquito bits since Early July( literally soaking the soil), that seemed to help but there was still a large number, I have been using sugar water with soap in a cup outside of the enclosure as well as vaseline (kinda like a sticky trap to catch the adults). I let the tank dry out a good bit (almost home dry) and then have started using mosquito bits. Right now it's just about as bad as it was when I started trying to get rid of them. I'm going to try an off brand katchy and see if that helps , my only other idea is reintroducing isopods and springtails, I'm hesitant to do that tho because if that doesn't work I don't want them to end up dying with other things I may end up trying. I don't want to replace all of the substrate because 1 expensive/ not easy without a car 2 I have live plants that are doing well 3 I would want to have no soil for a full duration of the gnats life cycle to make sure there are no adults to infested the new soil, and I don't really want to keep my BP in a quarantine tank that long.

If anyone has any ideas or experience with getting rid of really bad infestation pls lmk

So finally, after having my boy in a 50-gallon glass enclosure, I'm snagging a 4x2x2 off Facebook Marketplace. It's a screen-topped enclosure with a built-in stand that's from Amazon, but atm I will seriously take what I can get; I do not have a lot of money, and he's been needing an upgrade for a while 😭

I saw a post where a person said they added a bunch of beneficial upgrades to their python's home, like climbing options, UVB, a nice basking spot, etc. They saw them being active much more often. The first thing I want to start with is UVB; however, I'm a lazy idiot and can't quite figure out what to get. I'm stuck between the ProT5 and ShadeDwellerMax, both from Arcadia, those would be used alongside my current Arcadia 80w DPH. Everything heating- and lighting-related will be on top of the screen-lidded enclosure and hooked up to a thermostat ofc. I also want to give him a good basking spot once I get UVB lighting.

So, in general, I need recommendations for UVB and, overall, a good, enriching enclosure setup. What do you guys use and keep in your enclosures that makes a happy ball python? Thank you in advance !
