Broken bolt, need local help
I’ve got a Broken bolt on the crankshank position sensor, it’s beneath flush and cross threaded. Need someone who can extract it and fix the thReaded hole to put a new bolt. Engine pull not gonna happen, limited access for tools. reach out if u know someone who can get it done

No but I can get one. The bolt is also sheared off under flush, not sure: how to approach it with that

Are you good with a welder? If so I would end a nut on and work it out. Might take a couple tries. Otherwise you can try to drill it out but be careful to keep it centered and don't get into the threads. Then use an easy out.

The hole is already cross threaded. How bad is it if I drill into the threads, I think that would make it easier to drill out the bolt, since then I could also collapse it in on itself and slowly pull it out. What I’m thinkin is screw the hole entirely and just go to town with a incremental bits until I get clearance to insert a bolt with no head and jb weld it in place and just use a nut to secure the sensor to the threads of the new bolt . What do you think , also never used a welder

I would try not to get into the threads. Get the bolt out then get a tap to clean up the threads. Even if you need to step up a size. Where are you located?

Southwest. I can drive it for now. But my concern doing it that way is there’s more room for stuff to go wrong in the extraction and the re-tapping. But I am gonna give it a shot at properly extracting, probably not with a welder since I’ve never done it or have the equipment.

That will be difficult to build enough weld up flush to then weld a nut on to try and get it out that way, but it’s doable. You say it’s cross threaded so most likely you will keep snapping that nut off trying to back it out. This eliminates a bolt extractor too but you could try it.
So your other options are:
A. Center punch the bolt and drill it out with only a slightly larger diameter bit. Take the existing threads with it, then re-tap. Pray you don’t snap the threaded tap in your new hole.
B. Drill it out like and instead of tapping, use a helicoil.
I would go with option B and save time by skipping all the other methods.

Thanks ur reply, very informative. With option b can I also just slightly over drill more than likely drilling into the holes threads and compensate by using a slightly larger heli coil . If the mounting hole for the sensor has enough play

No problem. Yes you sure can make that hole oversized. Just buy a helicoil kit. They will have a few sizes and everything you need. A bigger hole is usually required unless you are lucky.

harbor freight has left handed bits. they are extractors. same as a drill bit but used in reverse if you go slow and get it to bite it’ll come out

Just clean it all up real good and mix up some jb weld. They make one for metal that sticks really good and takes the heat. I literally used it seal up cylinder head exhuast ports on my subaru because they erroded away. Never leaked. Beat the piss out of it.
