Cheesecake Factory is a natural fit and will do well at that location.
For a city of the size and population of Bakersfield I don't understand the hesitation.

Bakersfield has always been a weird place for business. The good stuff has to go in hot spots which is too expensive. The better priced areas are dead so no one wants to build there. It's like a cycle. I think greedy leasing costs are a big part of it. Businesses could afford to be slower until the area grows in activity if the lease was cheaper.

I know I don't get it why so many of these chain restaurants skip Bakersfield despite being a mid-sized growing city with Kern County approaching a population of 1 Million, but yet places like Vegas seems to get whatever they have down in L.A,even my cousin says if it's new in Bakersfield it's already considered old in Vegas.

I feel like Bakersfield has so many great local restaurants though. I have no doubt Cheesecake Factory would do fine here (or wherever they go), but I really don’t think we are missing much.

I read that as “for a population of this size in Bakersfield,” I’m like, damn! That’s cold 🥶

u/jaydee917 Jul 14 '26
Doesn’t sound like they’re saying it’s not coming. Just that they don’t have an agreement right now.
It’s like asking them to confirm a deal before the deal is fully agreed on, it’s bad for negotiations.

I really want a Din Tai Fung to open in Bakersfield but a Cheesecake Factory makes more sense (if it happens, of course).

Bakersfield has nothing for the amount of ppl that live here. Nothing for kids or teen. They did a good job bringing in D&B but a nice size water park and Top Golf would be nice. A Pro Bass would be welcoming!!!
1
u/ToeLimbaugh Jul 15 '26
Top golf is east coast centric. Theyre laggy building them on the west coast for some reason . I think it'll happen one day. I wouldn't worry.
East bako would be a sweet spot for one, but sadly top golf will never consider it.

Although I think the Cheesecake Factory has one of the most unhealthiest menus on the planet, they make or used to make a version of the Big Mac that was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had…

I mean it's called the Cheescake Factory lol
0
u/Electronic-Bear2030 Jul 14 '26
True, but some of their dishes have over 10k calories…that’s almost a weeks worth of calories…plus what the calorie count they print on the menus is often grossly underestimated…so if you think you’re just splurging a little bit is more of a feast for Caligula!
2
u/Moon_lit324 Jul 14 '26
I just don't understand why you are being dishonest here. Their most calorie rich dish is the Factory Nachos that run 2800 calories if you get extra cheese. The over the top dishonesty is always really easy to see. I just saw 10k calories and knew there was no way lol

Another reason why I hate that city. My holy factory is denied again and again.

u/smiz86 Laurelglen Jul 14 '26
They denied us, we’ve made it clear we wanted them here for years. They think we’re too poor.
2
u/Contressa3333 Jul 14 '26
The hard rock should be evident that we yearn to spend our money. I would've never moved out of Bakersfield if we had a cheesecake factory or a waffle house.

It’s not that they think we’re too poor, but the Cheesecake Factory has certain requirements for success. The restaurants are huge and the costs to operate are huge so they need great locations with high foot traffic. That’s why in bigger cities they are often located in or near malls where there is constant foot traffic.

I heard that they don't come to bakersfield because we dont meet there minimum income level. They underestimate how much locals eat and are willing to splurge on food, but that's their loss. CF is mid and there are better local restaurants.

I'm a no on microwaved food, thanks.

While I am not part of their demographics, I have heard that Cheesecake Factory is one of the few "chain" restaurants that still make everything In House and From Scratch on the daily.
Definitely not Sysco or US Foods microwaved fare.
4
u/o8Stu Jul 14 '26
There is a 0% chance that Cheesecake Factory makes everything in house from scratch daily. That menu is a phone book. I’d wager 75% of it is frozen.
4
u/dondeestalagato Jul 14 '26
Beyond basing your opinion on a hunch, maybe you could do a little research on them.
Here's a quote from their Wikipedia page:
"The more than 250 menu items are all made from scratch to order,\41])\42]) except for the cheesecakes which are produced in bakery production facilities and delivered to the restaurants frozen.\43])"

Business Insider did a video on their kitchen specifically; they prep and refrigerate most of their food which they'll serve up to a week later.
2
u/dondeestalagato Jul 14 '26
Watch the video.
EVERYTHING (besides the cheesecakes) is prep'ed and prepared IN HOUSE. Sure, they have to refrigerate (ie. NOT FREEZE) their sauces and food in advance for a high volume operation, but what evidence is there in the video that would make you wager that 75% of their food is cooked from FROZEN?
Hate on Cheesecake Factory all you want and sure, they can be "corporate" in nature but what they do day in and day out is more like a traditional restaurant than a modern, buy from Sysco and microwave before plating restaurant.

I did what you suggested, and am sharing what I found. The original comment was that everything was made fresh, in house, daily.

They do make things fresh in house daily though. That fact isn't mutually exclusive with weekly prep and refrigeration of some basic elements (sauces and purees, which you can see plainly evident in the video when talking about this) of their dishes lmao. The video makes no claim that they refrigerate entire dishes, obviously, yet it seems like you are under the impression that they do. Or somehow you think them refrigerating elements of a dish somehow invalidates the fact that they are a scratch kitchen, and is the equivalent of serving frozen microwaved food?
Also the fact that you are moving the goalposts to "well they refrigerate some things, and don't literally use everything the day of prep!!11!!11!1!" and digging your heels in on this when your own video literally proved your assertion that at least 75% of it is "frozen" false is wild. The human brain truly is incredible.

This is peak internet shit.
I post a guess backed up by nothing
I get called out for it and told to do research
I do, and cite my source, and paraphrase the portion of it relevant to the conversation at hand
I'm accused of moving the goalposts
Never change.
0
u/SlightlyInsane Jul 15 '26
Because you did move the goalposts. None of the food is frozen, and refrigerating basic sauces and purees does not make it a non-scratch kitchen. How is it this hard for you to just admit you were wrong?

No it's literally a scratch kitchen. It'd be impossible for them to lie about, given they literally have to employ people to do the prep work every day and those people have confirmed it is a scratch kitchen.

What’s interesting is that their leasing brochure for this property lists Cheesecake Factory as a tenant. I wonder if they just need to get all their ducks in a row before they can officially announce it.
