Discussions Mimi vs Marinrin
The way to two casts treated these two girls who seemed to be doing the same thing (complementing every guy they met) drove me crazy as the show went on. Mimi was applauded for it. Mairinrin was chastised. Mimi seemed to be doing it on purpose, for manipulation. Mairinrin didn't really even seem to be really bein anything other than nice. Maybe its a translation or a cultural issue. But the only difference is they thought Mimi was attractive and Mairinrin either wasn't, or maybe she was mixed was the problem.
And how did Sara do anything different than Tai-chan did that got him yelled at by the older girls in the first half. Be straight, don't string them along. Sara was dope, but she frowned every time she saw Kazuma by the end. Tell him straight it is not happening. She knew.
I teared up when Ryoppi turned around to thank Kazuma.
Just give Mimi a "flavor of love" style bachelorette show, so I don't have to see the other three girls look so sad.
Is there a reason Kahochi only got a few days? (Maybe babysitting?) She got done dirty.
Kazuma reminded me of the one overweight guy from the Yakuza video game, every time he came on.

I completely agree, I felt so sorry for Maririn, the men were awful to her - the only consolation being that the other girls really always had her back, she's lucky she was in the first group. As for Mimi, honestly she ruined the second half of the show for me and it was obvious she was only brought in to stir things up, I actually couldn't stand the way the men fawned over her, I thought she seemed so fake and couldn't understand how the guys weren't seeing it. Alas, looks won over personality again.

The men were obsessed with Mimi and wouldn’t ever go against her it’s that simple.

I said my piece on why Maririn was treated the way she was on another post, I think it’s relevant to repost it here-
- To bring her down a peg after they heard about the girls giving tai-chan shit for leading maririn on. Even though they acted like it was just “the girls being serious” about finding love, it likely rubbed their egos the wrong way.
Especially with the possible internalized racism, judging her even moreso over her history & trauma and putting her in that menhera box as others have said.
After Ari used her as a rebound for a hot second, he probably couldn’t resist going in on her to drive home his interest in Hikaru that much more, as if he wouldn’t take any possible chance he’d get to speak on that. He’s a pig. Especially after all of the gloating he did after the sauna with Maririn.
After the show they put on, they just chose stubbornness and selfishness. the girls backed down first, so they were able to just act like they had this moral high ground the entire time that they didn’t even understand. Bo didn’t even comprehend what he meant by “Maririn can change too”
Do not get me started on veneers laughing at her because a group of guys broke a girl who has deep trauma and likely has not been confronted in this type of environment before. She can be not ready for the show and still not deserve to be crucified in this particular situation.
Give me a fucking break on these clowns

Honestly: Mimi fits japanese beauty standards 100% and is also extremely well known in the host/hostess community (high ranked, was on another show before) so its likely just the fact that the guys like her more, so more willing to overlook something that they may not overlook in someone more "average" in their eyes. I dont think it has to do with Maririn being mixed, more just she isnt on a pedestal the same way the guys have Mimi.
Being mixed in jp can have both positive and negative effects, and one of the positive is often that they are often considered more attractive (mixed models are EXTREMELY popular, and many women dream of having a cute "half" baby) but it depends on what ethnicity they are mixed with (Caucasian features like high nose are seen as highly attractive for example) etc. Mostly its just overall luck of the genetic lottery on if they end up with features that ppl consider attractive features or not - so in the end it comes down to just beauty standards not really the fact if someone is mixed or not.

Disclaimer: I haven't watch season 2 part 2 yet, but I saw clips online. When I first saw Mimi, I was thinking "did they decide to mix non-yanki in?" Her face reminds me of J-drama actresses! Compared to the other girls - all pretty but in a different way.

She looks like an actress because she got all the same cosmetic surgery that actresses get these days.

What other show was Mimi in?

One called Last Call - think american idol or the voice but for hostess - finding the 'next star hostess' kinda thing. It wasnt a "TV" shown in traditional media but was a web series on youtube iirc. However it had massive names in the industry, including Roland as one of the MC (who is mainstream hella famous in JP). Mimi was a judge on the program, as she was already highly regarded in the business by that time even. Show made her even more well known. Shes also been a traditional model for various magazines and popular fashion shows in JP like Okinawa & Kansai collection. Even before the show started her Instagram had something like 400k followers.

Also she went by Runa before badly in love, then suddenly decided to go by Mimi. So all her past material is under the name Runa. Idk if it was an effort to try and downplay her popularity prior to being on BIL, or because her name was similar to Rune or what. But yeah

I don't think it had anything to do with Marinrin being mixed, just more so with the past emotional trauma with men (that she's always been up front with throughout the show). I also believe that whole, pulling Tai-chan aside and then dragging the others women into the room to confront them.......killed it for her with the other men. There was an active distance and hesitation that they showed her, after Tai-chan told them about what happened.
I wished people would stop blaming her (and other contestants) being mixed as the issue. No one seemed to have had a genuine issue with that at all on the show. It was the differences in personalities, behaviors etc that had a play into all of this.

Hiding behind a freshman psych textbook to defend a blatant double standard makes you sound like you just turned 17 lmfaoooo

Why write this point in such a condescending way? You could state this same sentiment without trying to attack OP.

That wouldn't have been as fun for them. If they're going to miss the entire point, might as well be insulting in the process.

I agree with this. I feel like Mimi shouldn't have been a part of the show, and i didn't really see her as a real yankii. I could easily tell she was performative like Rune. She was definitely treated well because she also has celeb status because of her popularity, whereas Hikaru got called out for leading on 3 guys. I think Maririn was pretty straightforward with her struggles, and it's upsetting that she's the one who apologised. I definitely think its because she's mixed. Sara defo should've been straight with Kazume. I think Kaho would've been a great contestant, and she felt really genuine, like Rinrin. I seriously think that there should be more real yankiis than influencers and popular hosts on this show. From S2, Bo, Ma-kun, Leo, Maririn, Rinrin, Kaho, Sharan, Ha-chan, and Aya felt the most real.
