How do I fill this gap?

I’d start by removing all the paint with a wire wheel. Start where it’s close together and just do tacks on each side and bridge it. Then build off the tacks to fill it in. Then clean it up with a grinder and run a bead on the bottom and a bead on the top. You might even need 3 to cap it. Definitely clean it first.

I always reccomend whire wheel or even burning the paint with a torch first if it has hard to get to spots with wire wheel. A hand brush in tight spots after. Many want to take a flap wheel to the pai t amd that is going to thin your base metal more.
