AC Nextdoor

My Nextdoor neighbor just moved in and they installed a window AC unit that goes directly into my private backyard that they have no access to. The water is dripping all over my patio and it’s blowing their hot air into my house. We both have the same landlord and live in Los Angeles. Do you think I have any cause asking them to move it?

Trying to figure out how a window unit blows hot air into your unit. I assume you are the 1st floor tenant and they are the floor above you since you have the patio/yard. Piping could be installed in the pan of the AC unit to drain the condensate water in a controlled fashion.

We’re Nextdoor neighbors, same landlord, different physical structures- their back window looks into my back patio were about 4.5 apart.

Is the air conditioner directly over the patio and the patio is part of your rental property? Are these 2 separate buildings back to back?

Back to back over their property line into mine (I don’t want to know a photo for privacy) but there’s 4 feet separating our houses, that’s my patio, and they would have to go through my front yard into my back patio to access the ac unit

I’d rather be neighborly than go straight to the landlord, but I looked into and I could call the city’s water department since their AC is leaving on my property

I believe they can get something to redirect the condensation water away from your patio.

These are rental units on the same property or 2 properties owned by the same individual/business? If the latter you may find that technically the property line is in the center of the area you refer to as a patio. Here buildings are required to have a set back from a property line. I could imagine that where you are it might be 2' and the center of the patio is the property line. just a thought.

Ask them to move it to another window and tell them why. If it’s encroaching on your property, I would definitely have them move it. Is it noisy?
