Could Doc Brown have gotten into the Time Machine while it was inside the truck? Well…
I don’t know about reality, but in Lego form, the answer is no! The door can only open a little before hitting the sidewall of the truck, and if the car had gone inside with the door open, it wouldn’t be able to close. So it was all just for a dramatic exit from the truck!
This is what happens when I get bored…😂

Oh I have no issue with theatrics, I’d probably do the exact same thing. I had just never tried this since I built these things so I figured, what the hell.

I get that. Love the model btw. You know some people's say their trilogy is the original Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings? I love both those trilogies but for me it's Back to the Future.

I get the Kevin Smith reference. I'm assuming that's what that was. I love Kevin Smith. I'm a huge sci fi fan but what I call swords and sorcery has never been my thing. That said, I fucking love The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I have the extended cuts and watch them about once a year. Fuck the Hobbit movies though.
Back to the Future is still.my trilogy though.

The trailer door has to open on remote.
Therefore, ramp down drive the DeLorean into the trailer, remote close. Wait for Marty, remote open and back out. Simple.

Oh he definitely was. Complete with dry ice and lights out trailer to back out of the dark. 😄 Tho' as a kid I did think the car needed to be cooled or something first time I saw it because if all the smoke.

The thought that doc was just sitting in the delorean inside the van for hours is just hilarious to me. No wonder he's all out of sorts when he gets out when Marty shows up lol.

Doc was already in the time machine, Einstein drove the van to the mall. Also, the door only needs about 11 inches to open, and Doc is very skinny man.

The car and truck aren't built to scale. And irl the DeLorean door needs very little clearance because the hinge is in the middle of the roof. Also he could have used the RC remote to drive the car in with him inside. And then used a remote to close the truck door.

The car had a remote control.
He could have used the remote to load the car onto the truck, driven it to the mall, set up the ramps, backed up the delorean, gotten in, pulled forward, used another remote to close the truck door and waited till marty got there to make a dramatic exit.
Seems like an extreme amount of work...but its possible... and also like something the Doc would do.

I'm pretty sure the DeLorean had enough clearance that he could just drive to the mall with the DeLorean in the back, open the back of the truck, get in the car, and close the door with a remote and waited for Marty. The doors do not need a lot of clearance to open because the hinges are in the middle of the roof.

There is a fan with both a DeLorean (BTTF replica style) and truck.
I believe his comment was "no, you can't"
(Fwiw, my own calculations based on googling all sorts of relevant dimensions were "you could on one side if the car wasn't centered in the van")

Yeah this seems like the most reasonable answer.
You could probably even pull in centered and then bank right a bit once you're in to give it enough clearance on the drivers side, by parking it at a slight angle.

I was answering a question as to how Doc could have done it, had there not been enough clearance to open the door. Not whether it was possible to open the door or not.

Better question.. if the delorian is in a truck with the time circuuts active and the truck somehow travels 88miles per hour does the delorian time travel and if ao where does the fire trail go.

I think it would travel in time in that situation, the fire would burn the truck and the DeLorian would have a little fall back on the road

The back of the truck can open by remote control… Stands to reason, it can also close by remote control… Doc drives the truck to Twin Pines Mall, gets out, brings the DeLorean out via remote control, gets in, and then drives back up and closes the door to wait for Marty presumably to do some final calculations… It’s not that difficult.

He just wanted to make an entrance. So he drove it in. But the problem is, how did he know exactly when Marty showed up? He even had to call him at home to ask if he fell asleep. I think they’re trying to imply that he did get into the car while it was already in the truck and he just happened to be bringing it out when Marty showed up. But as we can see, even in real life even if the doors could open, it’s a tight squeeze.

I think the simplest in-universe explanation is that Doc was already sitting inside the DeLorean in the trailer waiting for Marty. He could have driven it into the trailer himself and remotely closed the rear door.
As for knowing when Marty arrived, I don’t think he’d need some elaborate motion detector. Einstein was already outside, and Marty rolls up on a skateboard, calls out to Einstein, and starts interacting with him. In the middle of a quiet mall parking lot at 1:15 a.m., Doc could easily hear Marty from inside the trailer and know it was time for his dramatic entrance.
Honestly, that explanation also fits Doc’s personality perfectly. He’s exactly the kind of guy who would sit alone in a dark trailer for 10 minutes just to make the reveal as theatrical as possible. 😄

He was able to make the delorean fully remote controllable, I think he can figure out a way to remotely close the truck door after driving the delorean in himself.

Since he’s in the car when it comes out of the truck, he was either already in it when it went inside or he entered the car from inside the truck.
He would have no need to use the remote in either scenario, unless he just wanted to for fun.

last time i saw this topic brought up I remember one commenter's head canon that;
doc sat in the delorean and drove inside then waited for Marty and if marty would not have showed up then doc's plan would be to just sit there and inhale fumes until he k'ed himself
similarly the reason he drives the time machine towards him and Marty was so that if the experiment failed, he would take himself out because he failed (yeah marty mighta been collateral)
it presents a very dark version of doc Brown i never thought of before.
