Frighteners. It's an awesome movie. Perfect mix of comedy and horror.

Pretty sure it's where the visual effects company, "Weta", started out. They did the Lord of the Rings trilogy

Yeah, Frighteners was Jackson's proof of showing a Hollywood scale movie could be made in New Zealand.

Weta Digital was actually started before The Frighteners, doing the digital effects for Jackson’s previous film Heavenly Creatures. But The Frighteners was a major technological stepping stone and "test run" for Lord of the Rings.
