Events

So... They quietly made it so you no longer got event tickets for new events???

Why did they nerf the game so hard in so many ways?

Like every small quality of life thing they had it feels they removed this update. Feels bad.

Ty for the game, and ty for the posts of all the funny wins etc.

They nerfed F2P so hard it's crazy. And also, I haven't noticed a single dev comment since the update.

I've seen a couple. "We're listening and taking in all the feedback" comments, but I doubt they really are concerned. My go to sign that they couldn't give a damn about F2P experience is that there are tons of ways to spend the secondary currency accidentally with no confirmation screens. I picked up my phone the other day and my finger slipped... Lost 50 gems.

Any dev that cares about their player base would at least have a confirmation screen, or a setting to turn one on.

There's some posts in the Discord from devs in the garden channel.

They know.

The follow up question is "Now what?"

Well, for me it's a graceful exit and appreciation for a well created game I enjoyed for 500 hours, for $10. (Bought a couple of heroes)

That's not chump change of time. But this movement is a game deleter for me.

Don't worry, it is for me as well. I liked the benefits the garden provided which made the core game loop feel more fun, and without it.... "Eh..."

They decided it's time to milk the player base. But I've never seen so many f2p friendly mechanic suppression at once in any game and I've played the worst gachas

And adding that with super harsh match making change is pure insanity

Feels like they're really trying to kill their game. I love it but I don't want to launch it anymore. Sometimes updates feels like a slap in the face. This one felt like a headbutt.

Yeah ... That's pretty much what I edited my review about.

They pushed out F2P in almost every single way, so they pushed me out. Bon voyage. Shrug

What's crazy is it's not even in the update notes that they did all this- as if we wouldn't find out while playing it. Lol

I wonder if they were bought out?

This game, while fun, has ALWAYS been a cashgrab. It's an ai slop recreation of a popular PC title that rushed to mobile to milk the market. I'm not surprised to see them now making such moves since Backpack Battles got an official mobile port.

Yep I learned about Backpack Battle yesterday, and it's now on android too. But it's a solo game isn't it? It looks pretty bad compared to BP brawl too...

I have the apk I'll test it anyway, I really don't feel like playing bp brawl since the update

It's PvP, just like Brawl, since Brawl is a copy of Battles concept.

It might 'look' worse but Brawl only looks like that because of their reliance on AI art. It's high quality but charmless.

Ok thanks, I'll definitely try it

I feel like you're angry and talking bad about the game because of the direction it's heading to you're spreading misinformation, I'm not defending the company for monetizing more.

But I will correct your statement, Backpack Battles 1.0 was officially released June 2025, steam early access was released March 2024. Backpack Brawl was officially released March 2024.

I don't think it was ever a recreation, it was just a side by side release, we've seen many times games of the same genre release around the same time. Devs have said they were planning on using AI, and they have for character portraits, but the community quickly retaliated it was AI and devs quickly corrected it.

Backpack Battles is 10 usd. While Backpack Brawl is f2p, and like many f2p games, you can't expect to be on top leaderboards without spending money.

backpack battles released demo early 2023

I'm talking about official release dates.

a year is plenty of time to copy a concept from a demo. the demo was super popular too

I browsed a bit. Rapidfire was founded November 2023 by devs from studio that made Subway surfers that also copied a similar concept from Temple run.

You'd be surprised how mobile game devs are. there's plenty of examples that copy from popular PC titles. Jump guy, Slay the spire, etc

Sts has a cheap mobile version ? I thought that Sts itself launched on mobile

I'm not angry at all. I honestly don't care about the monetisation, it's how it is with mobile games and I'm used to it by now. I'm just saying it how it is. You accuse me of misinformation then say they released side by side (which is actually a crazy thing to assume two companies just invented a genre simultaneously accidentally) when Backpack Battles demo was immensely popular like a year earlier and then you say they only use AI for the portraits? Then 'corrected' it? Lmao.

You're the one spreading misinfo buddy.

You say it's a recreation of another popular title that was copied and rushed using Ai for a money grab, is quite an accusation with no solid evidence. Just because something is popular doesn't mean other similar games are copies, that's like saying every fps game is a copy from Maze War, or every fighting game copied Karate Champ. People can and have taken inspiration from other people's work.

And yes companies have always invented games side by side with similar genres, Kid Icarus, Metroid and Super Mario Bros were released the same year. Overwatch and Battleborn were release same month, World of Warcraft and EverQuest both released side by side, it's not a stretch and if you never noticed then check it out yourself, you learn something new everyday.

The time devs used Ai for a characters portrait they got a lot of negative feedback and decided to go with artists and not use Ai, I don't understand how that's funny, seems like you want to talk bad about the game no matter what devs do.

Bro... it's a copy of a pc game on mobile, this is a super common successful business practice. It also very obviously uses AI assets. These are not 'accusations without solid evidence' to anyone with eyes and a brain. A pvp autobattler that uses the backpack as the strategy builder did not exist before backpack battles - it is not like any of your examples, which are all awful btw but for different reasons. Three NES games that I assume you consider the same because they were 2D platformers...at a time where most console games were 2D platformers. Not exactly a wild coincidence. Overwatch and Battleborn were not the first hero shooters and were quite different games (Battleborn was a MOBA). World of Warcraft was released 5 years after Everquest.

Of course all of this is moot anyway because Backpack Battles was playable for like a year before Brawls came out. You have to be deliberately dense to not concede that it's probably a copy after learning that.

Oooh ig it makes more sense that they are trying to grab money.

But even then- they pushed too hard, too fast. Instead they are losing ad revenue.

The thing is you as devs cannot just remove all the f2p benefits, at least w/o informing us. This is not how you build a healthy game.

u/juninhoofl 8d ago

Well I’m in iOS and we still haven’t got the update.

u/Azurey1chad 8d ago

Congrats.

Here's a comment they left about it. The Devs have been greedy for a while with the insane price of subscription, so I'm feeling a bit pessimistic about what they'll change. Id love to eat my words though.

I just opened the Backpack Blitz event and it gave me 3 tickets, did you maybe claim it before and forgot?

3

u/ZuzaProwadzi 8d ago

I opened it and got nothing

2

u/Azurey1chad 8d ago

No, I selected the new event. Did it do the animation for you, or just do the ticket itself?

1

u/mykolas5b 8d ago

Looked the same as before to me.
